Try looking at places like Vintage Air and other such after market a/c manufacturers. They make something to fit nearly anywhere.

If you still have the original unit there, then some have used the business end of a window a/c unit and piped it into the original bus driver's a/c unit and powered it with the genset.

Someone on Ebay is selling long a/c pipe kits but I don't have the reference number, I think they were originally for buses too and had the ends already connected. Last I saw, they were getting a little pricey though.

Tried looking all over ebay for a/c pipe with ends already connected - couldn't find them - found a couple of a/c copper tubing 3/8 and 7/8 - but none with ends.

do you have the ebay item # - thanks

Pete,

I have replied direct to you, as per the rules of keeping Ebay numbers off this part of the BNO.

Pete, i forgot now what they were, seems like 6 and 10 size the man at rainbow can tell you what you need, i ran hose front to back no copper or pipe, the fittings are the type like a hose clamp not crimped, it sealed good as i have not had to add freon in years. just make sure you run the hose crefully as not to let it rub or dangle. mine has been on there for several years now and ive never had to touch it. there is a diagram at the bottom of the web site you may be able to read, it is not real clear. these little evaporaters are nice because they can run horizontal or verticle and will stilll drain, they are small size and pack a whollip, just what is needed , he also has the kind with heat. These units are all we need going down the road and we live in Texas , sometimes we only run the front one. I can of course still start up the onan and the roof airs if needed, but only had to do it once when i had a lot of people in the bus and it was 110 degrees out, and then i shut the roof airs off after a while , and my bus is not the best insulated

I have the beadlock crimper needed to make up the hoses for 134a. I bought and used it to make my system in a 4106. I will consider renting it. # 6 is standard for the high side hose, #10 for the low, and #8 between the compressor and the top of the condenser. I used Vintage Air in the dash and two Red Dot R4122 for the coach. Rebuilt a GM/Harrison A6 compressor (cast iron and 12.x cu.in. displacement). I used doubled condensors mounted similar to Frank's setup. I too have genny and roof airs. I figure I have about 5 ton with everything on. Makes a big difference.

I hate to appear stupid, despite my ongoing practice at it, but I can't figure out where you all put a drive pulley for things like a one-wire alternator or a/c compressor. I'm going to install power steering and eliminate my huge factory alternator- is there an adaptor to extend the blower shaft out into a pulley drive on my 4106 (8v71)? I can't find it in any of my manuals. As always, thanks in advance.

Does anyone know of a shop that would be willing to take on a task like installing the driver A/C system?

Don,

On my 8v71 which was in my MC-8, it had a belt driven factory alternator/generator. Ran 4 belts, maybe you could find one of these drives when you remove your unit.

There was another pulley at the rear of the bus which was doing nothing, also I understand some have used the crank pulleys which ran the bus a/c.

I switched to a V730 with the aux shaft on it. I've also seen the 8V71 aux shaft off the fan drive used for any number of things. I've also seen a pulley drive that plugs in the aux drive holes of the flywheel cover. Check marine and heavy equipment parts sources for this.

Thanks for the help. I still can't find a source for an accessory pulley drive to bolt into my alternator hole. Does anyone know where to get one?
Peter- my engine is transverse, and nothing runs on belts, but thanks.
Bob- I'll see if anything will fit where the a/c drive is.

But you could still use the 4 belt alternator drive set-up, which was standard on many MCI buses.

Peter.
