How much trouble is it to install jakes on a 671/4104. Can it all be done from the top side of the head? Without removing the head?
What would I be looking at for the cost of parts including the larger valve cover?
Thanks
John

Jim are they overrated for a bus? I know the 18 wheelers need them for all that wieght, but to keep adjusted and to add all the extra stuff is it rellly worth it??

the people that have them..use them.... and like them.... pros:: saves brakes....and some ppl like the sound....if you are max weight for your coach, they help....once they're installed and adjusted, you're good for 50k miles... or whatever your normal tune-up interval is...

On the other hand, the couple thousand dollars it may cost to retrofit them to an existing coach could pay for quite a few brake jobs.

It all depends on how much you drive the bus as well as where you drive the bus. If you do 50,000 miles per year through steep mountain grades, fully loaded and pulling a toad, they would make economic sense.

If you are a diesel mechanic and can install them yourself (which it sounds like you aren't) then your cost is only that to obtain them. Things get expensive rather quickly when you pay a shop $75+ per hour to do stuff.

john a jake brake is a very nice thing to have on your bus a4104 or the new off the line prevost. i have one on my 4104 what makes it expensive is if you have a 2 valve head then you must find the caps that are a spacer between the jake head and the valve.up here in bc a set for a 4104 run about $100 per hole, and be sure that you get some one that has done the work before, not some guy that says he can do it,sak who he has done them for and if you get a of the cuff answer go sone where else even if it costs more money, as stated you will need the jake toggle hi off low switch the micro switch that goes under your clutch pedal, a piece of 4 conductor cab tire wire to go the length of the bus , the micro switch for buffer and the rubber gromet that goes into the head to stop the oil leak, new fuel lines, new risers and bolts, new valve cover[ high rise type and get the al. one not stamped tin], and your jake kit with 2 masters and 4 slaves. the piece of mind that you will get from the jake is well worth the cost, enjoy your driving. mel 4104
