This is the little fabrication that came to me
after making a sloppy mess of my battery compartment.

Squeeze bottle with a vinyl hose & a rubber washer placed at the EXACT depth of the water level at top off.

Pull the caps
insert the tube with the bottle partially squeezed
(and nearly full of Distilled H2O)
until the washer seat on the top of the cell...
relax the squeeze and if you see water coming up the tube that cell is full
if you suck air
(like I do here frequently)
you need to squeeze water in...
you can over fill the cell momentarly
but you can suck the EXCESS back out
by letting the bottle relax.
A 100% lead pipe cinch every time with no mess
all you need to be sure of is
the position of the rubber washer.

It's a small item that makes my life easier

If you overfill but then suck some back out, you will be putting water in but removing acid. By doing this you will be changing the acid concentration in the cell and, over time, you will ruin the battery.

If you overfill a cell slightly, just leave it that way.

I use a weed sprayer that I cut the end off and heated to bend it in a 90 deg. Works for me.

I hang a 1 gallon bottle of Distilled water above area to be filled. Out of the bottle is a 1/4"x 4' long clear hose with a bulb at about 1-1/2' from he end. You just hold it over the one you need to fill squeeze the bulb and it fills. Let go of the bulb and it stops. Pretty simple.

And guys we may not want to go to Ed's for thanksgiving dinner if you know what I mean?

Dave

I have one of those too, but to top off four 4D batteries can require several refills at times. I also like to see what is going on while filling. (with safety glasses/goggles)

When there is only 2-3 inches of clearance above the top battery, and it is secured properly,
those "Right & Proper" containers have as much worth as a broken fan belt collection.

But I appreciate the variety of ideas & presentations!

Jack -

"... as much worth as a broken fan belt collection."

Only a true Corvair lover can appreciate that comment!

As for me, I use a similar method - plastic squeeze bottle with a clear vinyl tube.

Lots of good ideas here!

FWIW & HTH. . .

WEll MAYbe you need sliding battery trays....

I use one of those Right proper batt electrolite/dist water filler also, but I don't look until after I finish filling.

IF you are not aware :-) when it stops the muffled glugging sound (a penguin mating call ?) that particular cell is full....just sayin :-)-
