I know that most of the members & readers of this BBS are way, way beyond this stage, but thought I'd finally make a bus-related contribution for those who come after. Or am I the last of the bus converters? ;) IF your seats are in very good condition, you can sell them to a small charter company for $$$. Making the effort is definitely worth a few phone calls and a lot less trouble than being free of them by other means. An interesting parameter that I didn't know about when evaluating a coach is to look down the line of armrests - if they line up and are uniform it bodes well for general well-being of coach. Of course all the other things to inspect are more important, but just another datapoint. I was told this by a pro. Well, I'm off for bus construction toys at the swirling festival of life that is Sam's Club! -Chuck |

When I bought my 96A3, it still had it's seats, but I worked a deal with man I bought it from... Believe it or not, he gave me 1,500 for my seats AND he took them out for me! Brian |

i pulled the seats out on my mci-9 and drug then to the curb... in san antonio texas....south roosevelt and southcross.....greg askey's bus yard.... it was hilarious to watch the people driving by slow down and look at the seats....then sneak back and load a couple at a time.... saw a couple fights...they were gone in about 12 beers..... |

School bus seats are worse, probably because they are lousy seats. We finally stripped ours down for the stainless steel but threw away the cushions at the dump. Then the scrap metal guy only gave us about one half what he earlier quoted us for the scrap stainless. To do it again we would go directly to the dump. '74 Crown 10-wheeler. |

Thanks Chuck! The way I see it, that was probably a $2000 deal for me, 'cause I'm pretty sure I'd have paid $500 to have the interior stripped for me! Brian |

...and FF calls this a HOBBY???!!! Huh. Brian, at $500 you would have gotten your money's worth. Tuesday late afternoon. Guy calls, says his driver will be by at 9:00AM following morning to get the seats. Scramble, scramble. 3.5 hours later after having done most of the work with nothing but a flashlight, a ratchet and one 11/16 box/open end wrench quickly purchased from Wally World, seats are unbolted. Well, they're actually not unbolted, they're rather "un-nutted." ;) 8:00AM Wedsnesday - since the hard work was done the night before (and as I am quite sore from such unnatural contortions from the preceding evening's activity, squirming on a bus floor amidst all matter of flotsam & jetsam) I have a nice leisurely breakfast at IHOP. Haven't graced the door of an IHOP in many years, but Beverly was sweet. She called me 'honey'. I needed that. She noticed the catalog of bus parts and for some reason wanted to know all about the project. I'm still not sure how to describe the look on her lovely face as I describe what I'm up to. 10:30AM Wednesday - Dude's still not here. Aaargh! Well, that's kinda ok, because I've been kept busy as a home-maker on diet pills with my scrub brush & cleaning detergents. Or should I say bus-maker? 11:00, he shows! Noooo, he's not in a nice roomy box van with a convenient lift gate, he's in a fully equipped 102A3, and he has to be back on the road in one hour!!! Good grief. One hour later, it's done. 20+ pairs of seats intertwined between the seats on his 102. Lift. Lift more. Struggle. Down four steps. Three paces. Up four steps. Lift. Lift more. Flip. Repeat until done. Groan. And as sore as I am right now I ain't got nuthin to complain about. Following that, the other guy had to drive eight hours. ...I thought a HOBBY was supposed to be relaxing!? --c PS: If I could edit the title of this thread, it would be "TOSS THOSE SEATS!" ;) PS2: I ain't no R.Terry |

We don't have wino's in Kingman, do you know if one pays drop outs and derelicts the same rate? The racks were the best part on my MCI, especially doing them on my own. Would have been much better to have left the seats in, before taking the racks down. Less distance for them to fall...... LOL. Peter. |

We don't have wino's in Kingman Well that's a good thing. I was thru there three years ago with a big Ryder truck and entered a local eaterie which had a sign on the doors saying "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED INSIDE". I still don't know if it was a joke or for real. It didn't look like a joke! |

Chuck, There are quite a few businesses that have that sign and ofcourse you can't enter a Federal or Government Building if you are carrying. Walmart had one, but it was taken down when it was pointed out that they sold guns and ammo. Welcome to the wild west........ LOL. Btw, we have very little gun related crime, you never know if the other guy has a bigger gun than you........ (Grin). Peter. |

Used to be a "Hobby" was a hole in the water where you bailed buckets of cash out as someone sprayed cold water on you. Bus conversions are a gentlemens hobby , same cash flies out door , but much less water flows in (non Eagles). FAST FRED |
