Hi Larry,

I have no useful knowledge about a bus like yours, but in general, I want to know which wheel is out.

Normally the center of the wheel is a bad measurement point, if you had the wheel cocked ever so slightly, you would have one wheel angled forward an inch, the other back an ince, there's your two inches.

A better place to measure is at your kingpins.

I would look for reference points on your frame/chassis to measure from. Maybe the forward anchor points for your rear suspension. Again, I'm a know-nothing about 4107s

I would measure front to back (Like you already have, but from a better reference point), and diagonally.

someone who actually knows what they are talking about should speak to the issue of bushings that are hammered out or whatever.

Good luck,

Gary

Check for worn bushings also check where the radius rods attach to the bulkheads. Was the coach in an accident before you got it? To be sure take your coach to a heavy truck aligment shop and they will tell you for sure. Bill

The truck service magazines advertise a number of all wheel alignment machines.

Find a shop with one & they will be able to get you going in one direction, or at ,least troubble shoot the chasis for you.

At my old fire station, we had a Ladder Truck that had the axles mounted on the truck crooked. It was ever so slightly noticeable but that truck went down the road at an angle. It was a midship mounted ladder and not a Tiller (Hook & Ladder) It had never been wrecked but it was just not straight on it's axles. Was funny to see it going down the road. It handled OK. Just had a heck of a time getting use to the mirrors at first when driving it. You could see so much more out of the one mirror. Is it possible your bus is not straight on it's axles? Just a thought.......

I had a new motorhome that did the same thing. The mechanic called it "dog legging". One rear spring was mounted on the axle slightly crooked. A laser ewuipped truck alignment shop can find the offending axle and what is causing it.

a GOOD truck shop that does front end alignment is the ONLY thing to do...I pulled a 50' trailer that the axels were pointed 1/2" to the right...I always called it "crabing"...due to my previous training...

Id look the thing over good before i did anything, look at the radius arm bushings all around because if they are worn it can cause this problem and of course where they mount, there are new ones out there that are urethane type but i dont care for them as they make the bus ride rougher, id also look up in the wheel wells on both sides in the rear for missing or damaged bolts or rivets, then look up on the rails near the venter looking for the same thing , these buses have no frame and rust etc under the rear or sometimes rear floor damage can cause the rear to move around. id look at it all carefully then pick a good shop. hope all this makes sense

I have to chime in with Frank, and say from personal experience that urethane bushings are more trouble than they're worth. I had a Corvair I autocrossed on weekends 25 years ago and put urethane bushings on - a rougher ride I never had before or since. I shudder to think what they'd do to a bus' ride.

Had urethane bushings in my MC-8 and it rode beautifully. Putting urethane in cars as body to frame mounts can cause a rougher ride, but when used as a suspension bushing, it should have little effect on the ride quality. There will be a big noticable difference as the vehicle is now a little tighter than new, when compared to the sloppiness of the old worn out suspension.
