Questions: 1. How hard is it to put a DDEC in a 4106? 2. How difficult/expensive to convert a DDEC to a MUI. 3. Advantages/Disadvantages either way? 4. Same questions with the V731. 5. Can you mix the two? | ||

The DD series 50 is a modern engine and does fit. 330 hp and 1200ft lbs will move the Sportscar of Coaches delightfully. GO modern!! FF | ||

So they make a 50 LH rotation? Can these be found in transits? How much is involved? | ||

Laryn, There is no LH series 50, unfortunately. The transmission for the series 50 would be the VR731 or the VR731R. They have a reverser gear in them so you can use a RH engine. Other options would be one of the ZF or Renk transmissions, but I don't know enough about them to comment. | ||

Series 50 with a VR731R in the Nova RTS here in Toronto. Lots of them stateside. This vintage RTS should be available to busnuts now, having served their 12 years pounding the pavement. Start working the phones? Remember, however, that this drive train still has commercial appeal to keep the remaining ones on the road. They won't be free... happy coaching! buswarrior | ||

A ZF 4 or 5 speed can also be had with V drive that handles the rotation. FF | ||
