Just did my first major run in my 4106. Made it from Utah to Ill. with only spending $300 in repairs. A few hundred more and I will be all set. I am off to the North east for a bit and am wanting to tow my Honda on a dolly about another 8 hours. The tongue weight is next to nothing (under 100 lbs.) and I am wondering if the flat plate under the bus in the rear with the 2 holes in it will pull that load for this one trip. I was told by the guy I bought it from that it was a hitch plate. It sits right behind the bumper and has a 7/8 and a 3/4 hole drilled in it. It fills the gap between the frame bars. I have a piece of 1 inch steel I can throw a few holes in and make it work. Does this thing sound like it is factory or after. I read in the old strings and some say yeah others no. I would prefer to have a welder in New Ham. do it rather then here in Ill. I thank you for all you can give. Eric |

I can't quite picture what you are dealing with. I advise that you go to a full service welding shop that does trailer hitches and have them scope it out for you. attachments should be to the suspension, there is no frame. Tongue weight is a very minor factor… I am sure you can jump and bounce on almost any bumper all day with no problem. The big issue is that 3000 lb car bouncing along trying to push, pull, and turn every inch of the way. That is a lot of force!! |

I have a 4106 that is where I will install mine. This is my second 4106, the first one I had a hitch in the same location and pulled a caravan on a dolly all the time. I also bought and sold GM 4104's, 4106's, and 4107's I used to take my hitch bolt it underneath and load a Ford F-150, 4 wheel drive pickup and take buses from Conn to North Carolina and Florida never had any problems. I used a piece of 1" plate drilled two to match the plate on the craddle and 1 hole for the ball. Use hardened bolts. |

Perfect! It certainly looks like a factory designed place for a hitch. Think I will go with it and get friends in New Ham. to look at it. I mean the worst that can happen is the engine will fall out right? The bus had been sitting for about a year. Had more smoke then I have ever seen out of an engine for about 200 miles. Ran a little injector cleaner and it shaped it right up. Spent a few pennies on a oil change and they replaced the fuel filters with new brackets and screw on filter elements, being more easily obtainable. The big deal was the differential seal on one side was pissing out oil. Could not find the parts so I had it filled half way, ordered new brakes and drove on. Tomarrow the right side gets worked on. It seems the left was done awhile ago. Both at once? why? takes away fun for next year! Spent another $100 getting a jump in the middle of the night. Rain seeped into the back bay from the wheel and dripped into the regulator. Shorted the whole thing out. God bless the circuit breaker. So not bad for her maiden voyage. 3000 more miles and she can sit in the sun of Florida for the winter. Thanks for all the info. Eric |

dont take the rear end lightly, i had that problem and ruined a good rear end and it ended up costing me 5700.00 before i got it right, that oil can get out of there fast as i found out the hard way. get somebody to replace that seal would be my advise before ypou get much further.
