Saw a listing for these says they are around 8 months old. Has anyone heard of these? Sounds like a lot of hours. But a lot of wieght. 2 VOLT TROJAN L16RE-2V . EACH BATTERY IS RATED 1235AH@100HR. = 7,410 amp hours 119 lbs each x 6 =714 lbs | ||

these are the type of battries that they use in telephone offices as a stable voltage and as back up during power outages. they were used in 48 volts mainly however they were used for other voltages in multipules of 2.2 volts (2.18volts) | ||

when set up as a 12 volt battery the amp hour rating would be 1235 ah. | ||

John A friend of mine uses them. He says they are great for use like the coach battery. Like Mel says they are from telephone use. One of the main problems is they are heavy and require a lot of room. Bill | ||

The number you are quoting is a 100-hour rate. The 20-hour rate, which is what is generally used for comparison of house batteries, could be as little as one-half that number, and will almost certainly be no more than 3/4 that number. Also, Latvia-69 is correct; when connecting six of these to make a 12-volt battery, or 12 of them to make a 24-volt battery, you do not multiply the amp-hours. Six of these would make a single 12-volt, 1,235 amp-hour battery at the 100-hour rate, or perhaps 900 amp-hours or so at the 20-hour rate. About the same as four 8D deep-cycles. Telecom take-outs, BTW, should be free or very nearly so. They don't make good house batteries, but can be a good value if you pick them up for next to nothing. Trojan sells them as RE , renewable energy batts , not telephone standbys , so they would make excellent house batts. At about 120 lbs each a 24v setup a dozen would be one heck of a house bank, but might slow you down on hills. These would be great if you had the ability to recharge them in a modest amount of time . Perhaps a 300A -24V bus alternator belted to a propane or diesel engine? With Smart Voltage regulator? To get the voltage, using these batteries looks to be a similar weight to using a pallet mover or small forklift battery. No free lunch, a big capacity battery bank is going to weigh a lot. I like FF's DC charger idea. happy coaching! buswarrior | ||

I met a Canadian here in Yuma a couple of years ago that was using these. He said they had been in his bus for 20 years so far. Picked his up from a salvage yard for $10 per cell. | ||

The Trojan website lists them as 1235/100Hr and also 1110/20hr rate. I'm not sure that I trust this, but it's what the website says. So, 12 of them stacked together would give 1110 Amp Hrs (20 Hr Rate) at 24V and weigh almost 1400 pounds. At a foot wide and 18" high, they'd also take up a rack 7 feet deep. That is a powerful battery bank but it's also a big, heavy battery bank. | ||
