I am wondering what would the threshold for speed be to be able to turn a bus on its side by jerking the wheel.

Very very ugly crash.

I think it is very unprofessional to see someone "wheeling" one of these buses around.

Heck most non bussers view us as a bit of a spectical. Slow down, give them a chance to get a good look.

Early reports are that the bus was sideswiped by a semi which kept going. Not enough info yet to assess blame here.

Still wondering the same question.

I bet it would be a remarkably slow rate of speed in order to do it.

Len I wasnt blaming the bus driver. Your not trying to blame the trucker are you.

The whole thing is getting murky, and we may stop hearing the rest of it as it is becoming old news.

Higher speeds than appropriate are being suggested.

And, as usual, the media can't be counted on to be faithfully reporting the intended context of investigators comments.

Someone local will need to keep an eye on this, the rest of the continent won't be hearing much more, I suspect.

happy coaching!

"I think it is very unprofessional to see someone "wheeling" one of these buses around. "

I have absolutely NO CLUE as to why
Viewing, seeing or watching some one mishandle any vehicle
would be "Un-professional".

Even IF I was a Professional Watcher,
vision alone could not condemn me of anything,
vision is passive.
Would hearing someone wheeling one of these busses around
be unprofessional as well...?

I could understand an irresponsible, inattentive or unqualified driver
acting in an unprofessional manner
but then that Driver wouldn't BE a PROFESSIONAL would they.?

...is the L-69 virus spreading or responsible?

BTW...if you want to witness a bus being driven in a professional manner
out of control
go to YouTube & search for "Skidding Bus"... there are several instructional videos to watch on the subject...
& fwiw, about 15-20 MPH is ALL that it takes to lay a Big One over on it's side!

Well i am local and its all over the news and the story changes as time goes by. The bus driver said he was clipped by a truck. The truck is reported to be from Farmingdale,(just 5 miles south of us) so i am guessing UPS or Postal service.

The truck driver of interest and other drivers said the bus was flying and had been running off road several times. Passengers reported hearing the rumble strips several times before crash. There is a video of passengers, not a foward facing image. It is being studied. They also have the engine recorder.

The truck drivers rig was gone over good, no sign of impact or damage. Seems they are clearing the truck driver ( he contacted the police after the accident they say) They are going over the bus drivers last 72 hours best they can. Riders said he showed up half hour late and the trip went downhill from there. He showed up late leaving china town on the way to Foxwoods Casino. The crash happened returning from the casino.

Senator Chuck (never miss a photo opportunity) Schumer is calling for increased scrutiny of these low budget carriers. A 15th passenger died. There is a 50 mph speed limit posted there for trucks.

Well todays paper states the bus driver had a suspended license. Not clear if he had been interveiwed yet. The truck driver is from Mass. and he contacted the police and is a witness not a suspect. The attorney general is involved wondering if they need more control of the CDL's etc. yesterdays reports were on the bus driver having served time 20 years ago for manslaughter and 10 years ago robbery. The radio news has another NY senator jumping in for more regulation of the "low cost bus charter industry".
