John, I would hope you hear from Sean Welsh, as he is the resident Neoplan expert. |

What model are you looking at? Neoplan made many different styles, from low-floor transits all the way to double-deck parlor coaches. At 45', you are clearly looking at one of the U.S.-built parlor models, perhaps a Cityliner. Any Neoplan in the U.S. is going to be an orphaned coach, as Neoplan USA went out of business early last decade. The U.S.-built models will have lots of commonly available parts, though, from Detroit/Allison power trains to Meritor axles and Bendix brakes. That said, Neoplan-specific parts like window glass, body panels, and frame components are either unobtainium, or very expensive (with long lead times, as they come from overseas). For example, windshields cost me $1,800 apiece, with another $1,200 or so in labor to install them, for a cool three grand or so. Side glass is a bit cheaper, at $800 per window plus installation. If you give us the model and/or the VIN I might be able to tell you more. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

That's a Cityliner built in Lamar, CO. Looks to be in OK shape, but I have to agree with Clifford. The listing says 600,000 miles, and at that point lots of things will need to be rebuilt or replaced. It's probably not worth more than $10k, given the age, mileage, and parts availability issues. A tour operator who cares about seats and video monitors might have more interest in this coach, especially since the DOT is current, but those don't add any value for a conversion. Lastly, the glass line, with windows that are both curved and angled, makes conversion a challenge. At least the Cityliner has two-piece driver windscreens, which are a bit less expensive and easier to replace than mine. And nothing beats the Neoplan ride, with all due deference to the Torsilastic crowd. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

The listing says it's a Cityliner but the photo is clearly a Metroliner. Metroliners are actually easier to convert, and the glass is easier to replace. They still have the nice Neoplan ride. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.Blogspot.com |
