I found when I tested my Heart Combi inverter, that the microwave clock, and therefore the control buttons, would not make enough demand on the inverter to actually turn it on. Once a different load was placed on the inverter such as a light, it would then turn on and power the microwave. Of course, the clock had to be reset each time.

What do others do? Manually turn on the inverter when you want to use the microwave or buy a manual microwave?

The microwave clock is a parasite load .

On most quality inverters thinking costs very little juice (waiting for something to get turned on ) but once ideling , providing some juice the draw is MUCH higher.

Simplest is to set the inverter NOT to come on with a very tiny load , if you can.

Other choice is to plug the microwave , some TV's Sat dish ,computer and other parasite loads on to a switched wall socket. When turning on the microwave 11-11 is fast to enter as time.

This way you don't have to "pay" just to keep this stuff alive .

IF you have acres of solar and can constantly recharge , the inverter may have an ON setting , where it wont hunt for loads.

I guess your Heart Combi doesn't have a standby and ON switch-setting like my Trace SW2512MC? I just leave mine on "ON" and it takes care of the digital clocks and memory settings of my 120v appliances and air bed controls. Plus I have a 120v refer that cycles on and off, so leaving it ON is no problem and the microwave works fine. The Trace handbook also says the difference in power usage between standby and ON is small.

I have a Heart 2530. I don't know if it has a ON switch-setting like Geoffs' but will check. What I have had to do is turn on the hair drier and then the micro comes on. I don't have to do this all the time but maybe one out of 7 times or so.
