This is an auction site that only handles excess govt. property. Very little information is offered in these particular auctions. Can anyone identify the type of bus being auctioned?

The buses on the second page say 'mercedes'

Was in Houston over the holidays and the only thing I know is that those transits are UGLY! Really uninspired design. I was wondering who the mfgr was also. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

If I was nearer, I would like to find out if they had Allison transmissions and if they used an HT 740 in a T drive configuration. Anyone know and what motor they have?

Add on 1st page says Ikarus, 1991. As I recall, this was a conglomerate of partnerships out of Spain that also made an intercity model that they tried importing but could not get any takers. Also, I think they had some connection with Crown in the US. While not the most inspiring of designs, looks very much like several others produced in that period; Orion, Gillig Phantom, Neoplan metro---typical transits of the period. Appears to be about 30', which might fill the bill for some. Probably questionable drive-train components and other OEM parts.

When I searched for Ikarus, I found a lot of references to the articulated buses and a few to other types.
These are a 40 passenger unit and according to one site, about a 40ft bus, but who knows. I think I will give them a miss too as they are too far to travel to and find out they are all non runners.

The Ikarus's I saw had series 60's in them. Don't remember the transmission. I do recall they had problems keeping air compressors in them. Turns out the suspension was computer controlled and not engineered right. It was constantly filling and dumping air constantly. There was a recall on them (don't know what they did) but they fixed the problem. The other complaint was that the drivers couldn't see at night. They had those tiny funky headlights on them that was about the size of a 2D flashlight.

I plan to go check the buses out next week. I live 40 miles from where they sit. Any request?

From what I was told by a company same as nimco. The transit coach to buy would be from Dallas as they have the very best maintainence program for there buses in the U.S. period, and I believe they will soon be starting to release there units.
This guy purchases fleets all over the Country and Canada and parts them out. I personally saw him on a site part out 50 transits in 10 days.Anyone interested in a good transit coach watch for DALLAS....
John
