NO way, Alcida is a showboat style org , and wants to do MAJOR damage to the West (to keep up (mostly Saudi) funding). Small stuff retaliation like blowing a pizza parlor is not their style. A BIG BANG takes big time to organize. FF |

Fred you are exactly right IMHO. Plus do we really know that he is? Interesting how they announced it during the end on "The Apprentice" That the Trump does. And then supposedly he was buried at sea very soon after. Just saying. Just as the election years are heating up. Dave |

Show me the body. This seems very staged to me and the timing is suspect. What we all need to be mindful of are the "speculators" who are driving the price of our necessities into the stratosphere due to unrestrained greed. There was a time when "commodities" speculation was regulated. Look what de-regulating it has done to us. Every society has to have boundaries, even a capitalist one. Our worst enemies exist within. |

I agree the timing is suspect...... soon after Obama announces he will run, 2 days after the release of his birth certificate... I agree the timing makes one ponder! Nonetheless Alquida (sp?) has had many years and a LOT of time to figure out what to do in case Osama is killed. Having plants in this country ready wouldnt surprise me..... just be a little more careful |

Yes, that is possible and we do need to be careful out there, especially solo women. I have decided to be a traveling self-defense teacher as a way to help the most victimized among us feel more empowered. I will be reaching out to "senior" groups too as they are some of the most vulnerable. If anybody here is interested in classes at their CG or in a community center, please let me know. Thanks, Kat |

Kat, You have a whole senior's group right here, as 44% of our viewership is age 50+ with 61% of viewers have an income of $60k or greater. I'm more than happy to take anything you have in print and devote a section here on the bulletin board for you. I make a presumption that you are also involved in elder fraud and elder abuse, as well and if so, please feel free to include any of that material here, too. Ian www.busnut.com |

Hi Ian, Thanks! I will get you some material. I am close to being certified so as soon as that happens I will be looking to book classes around the country. Elder fraud and abuse is also part of my reason for this as well as child and animal welfare. Kat |

I thought the thread was made applicable when Ian gave the stats of the number of elderly people who frequent this board. Add that to the fact that many of them spend a major portion of their lives "on the road", I think it makes perfect sense. Whats your problem, if it doesn't have to do with what guage wire you use it isn't fit for the board? They even titled it OT (that means off topic) so those of you who are incensed wouldn't have to waste your time looking at it. Move on and quit whining! John |

The one thing we all have in common is a love of buses. I would not have the great life I do without my "retired" Greyhound. I love my bus! What we do, as fellow bus lovers, with our lives is relevant and would be fun to talk about. Technical stuff is great. I have had many informative tips passed along...thanks! So, even though this may seem OT, I believe it is on the mark. Best To All, Kat |

I think along with our bus being ready for the road, we need to be ready for the road and to me that includes some form of self defense. When we pull into a truck stop or wherever, we never know who might be lurking out side wanting to do us harm. I believe this is all about busnuts... On Topic! Spanky (Steve) |

For years and years, I have carried a handy little Very Pistol. It came in handy once when I was driving truck, but I haven't needed it since then. The downside is that every so often you have to replace the flares, but they aren't that expensive. I see that the newer versions are in 12 gauge. I might have to update mine and send it to a WWII museum! Oh, and the fellow I used it on had a really bad case of heartburn as he flang himself from the cab of my truck! |

My mom has a gun lol. Im wanting to learn to shoot one of those machine type bow and arrow But I dont believe in killing animals unless absolutely necessary for survival of my own kind. In this case though, it would be more likely used against my own kind (Message edited by happycamperbrat on May 03, 2011) |

My late uncle Sammy, a retired Teamster always said: "I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by six". He was referring to the heinous crime of carrying a licensed handgun through New York State when travelling from his home in Rhode Island to anywhere else. |

Steve, As a solo, female, busnut I can tell you how much more confident I feel traveling alone knowing I can handle dicey situations should they occur. I have a very protective Shepherd mix buddy and his sister so that helps but having the skills I do gives me even more confidence. Sharing that with other travelers is something I enjoy doing. We're all in this together and if I can help in some way, I will. |

Gus, It's not about being paranoid, it's about being aware and prepared. Just like it's good to know how our rigs work, it's also good to know how to defuse a possible volatile situation and protect those we love. |

I can tell you that I and probably most others respect your wisdom and knowledge you share with us here. But I personally don't see a problem with off topic threads being started. I actually enjoy most of them. What I don't care for is hijacking someone's thread and taking it off topic. Just thought I'd let you know your one of the ones I respect. Gary |

A Paranoid is a person that knows the facts. "I see that the newer versions are in 12 gauge" Beware a flare gun is very light and will not chamber a 12G shotgun round , there too long. A 12G flair gun , with 5 min in a lathe , will chamber a shotgun round. It will explode in the hands of the operator the first time its fired. Hmmmm, FF |

Actually Fred, I was speaking about the fact that the 12 gauge flare would be easier to handle than the 25mm 1940's model I have now. If I wanted to use the heavy hardware, it would be the .40 S&W or even the 20 gauge shotgun. Is it still paranoia when they really are out to get you? |

Somehow I don't feel any threat by a terrorist against my little bus!! Jihadist? 12 Gage? Birth Certificate? .40 S&W? Flare pistols? Osama? Machine type bow and arrow? Obama? If this isn't paranoia I don't know what else to call it? This string would be right at home on the NRA board. We can't give Obama any credit either even though he did in 2 1/2 years what Bush couldn't do in seven!! |

Hey Gus, My point is that, as a solo woman, I have to be more careful than you guys. Women, children and animals are preyed upon with alarming frequency. I am a full-timer so, to me, this is about every day safety and awareness of your surroundings. I have traveled solo for a long time so I know what I'm talking about. Your mind and body are most effective against human predators and other violent offenders if you know how to utilize them without fear. Nothing political or paranoid about that, just simple self-preservation. |

Having a fire extinguisher is not "paranoid." Having insurance is not "paranoid." So, why is it "paranoid" to be prepared to defend your loved ones and yourself? Remember: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away... |

I don't think anyone here is particularily paranoid, I'm retired from law enforcement and I think possibly I've seen most of the possible situations that can cause harm, all I can suggest is that a person should be aware of their surroundings and listen to your gut instincts, if you feel uneasy about a situation, remove yourself from it if you can, the way the laws are structured now it seems they favor the criminal so be aware that the protection you carry may become a legal liability, sometimes there are alternatives to lethal force that can be very effective, I saw a presentation once on the effects of a can of wasp spray on a person, I was impressed but we all must choose for ourselves where our comfort level is and what it takes to maintain that comfort level. |

Gus Please be a good board member and reasonable busnut. If a subject line has OT in it any where please don't read it. It will insult your sensibilities. If you feel you must read it to complete your day please refrain from responding. You have made your dislike of OT subjects obvious and we all appreciate that. We don't expect you to read and enjoy OT topics but we really get tired of your whining. |

From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/social.media/05/04/fake.bin.laden.scam/index.html?hpt=Sbin -- As news spread that the White House won't release photos of Osama bin Laden's body, federal authorities and security experts on Wednesday were urging Web users to be careful clicking on fake links claiming to offer images or video about his death. The FBI has released a warning about malicious software being spread with the fake links. The agency's Internet Crime Complaint Center urges the following: • Adjust privacy settings on your social-networking sites, like Facebook, to make it harder for friends or non-friends to post items to your wall. • Read e-mails and social-media posts carefully. Malicious messages often contain poor grammar, misspellings and "nonstandard English." |
