Got a beautiful but chilly day and I'm heading out to the Skanee house(anti-KOA) today to build a ramp so I can get a better running start into the back door, making the house handicapper accessable has been a challenge but coming along, I'm still waiting for the bulldozer to come in and give a final level to a couple of sites so I can have bus visitors from time to time, we have the spring load restrictions still on the roads so nobody is hauling heavy equipment right now but hopefully soon. I do have room for a bus or two but only 30 amp power for 1 right now but 15 amp power for the other lol. I figure at some point somebody will accidentally cruise thru the Upper Penninsula and get lost and wander into my place and they will be doomed lol.

Cody I have a sister in law somewhere up there. She works at the Lumber and Shingle Mill During the Summer and just cold in the winter as she says, LOL
So maybe someday we would be up there. But a long way off if so to speak,

Dave

It's beautiful in the summers up here and we're close to absolutely nothing, except the Big Huron River for fishing and Lake Superior, the winters are a little brutal tho and when the kids are out of medical school I want to travel again and spend some winter months in a warmer place, my kids are grown and gone, back and gone, back and gone, I'm sure many of you know the drill but now with them in school they'll have a fighting chance for a future meanwhile I'll be enjoying the bus for some short runs and with a couple of spots for a bus to set down and relax, tho they are majorly primative right now it'll be fun, just an alternative to the state parks where you sign over your birthright to just get in. Hey, I look at it as a free spot is a free spot and sorry, no walmart to walk around in lol.

It is paradise in the summer months, I'm not building a campground just a couple of level spots where a person can come in and relax and be able to reach their tanks with a hose and maybe even find power with a cord, just a simple setup where a person can relax for a while.

Yep us too, We always worry that the city or county where we are staying on a friends pad or property in the bus will change or put in a new law where we will need to move it or be fined with them all hurting for tax dollars etc. We hope some day that we will be able to buy some property to live in the bus on with no hassles other than property taxes and utilities!!!

I figure a couple of spots for a couple of buses to sit, and add a couple more here and there as I can, I've got 13 acres of woods, it's a good place to sit and do nothing or maybe putter a little with your bus.

Today the sun is out and supposed to hit 65, fear will be overcome by bravery as I return to the part of the roof that I fell off last fall, I'm adding a metal valley to a problem area and then starting to run the new metal roofing on the south side of the bedroom, after this part is done I can start laying out the new sun room that will come off that side, there are sliding glass doors on that wall so it'll be a great spot to sit and tease the mosquitos that are locked out of the sunroom, I'm hoping will be around 16x16 but I've got to see how much actual space I can steal, I may have to move the sauna over to the side cause this is one of the routes I take from time to time to move the bus over to the septic tank to dump the poop tanks. After the problem area on that part of the roof is fixed then the new flooring can go into the bedroom and the tanning bed can go in and be slid into place, that'll remove another pile from the living room, soon I may be able to actually sit in the living room and watch the deer thru the windows, or the fire in the fireplace. I'm also dragging a 20ft piece of 2 inch pipe to mount at the end of the house to hold solar panels for the new lighting system, those will come later and I've got the pipe now so that has to be moved, I've got a 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter and a few batteries but will need a lot more, the electric in this area is high so I want to generate as much as I can to offset costs. I've already bought a new wood/coal stove that does a great job of heating the whole house so that part of the project is done. I just wish I still had my tractor with the loader, it sure would make things easier but I had foolishly sold that a few years ago when my parkinsons first started and libby paniced at the thought of me falling into the tires, but I've learned to deal with the problems and they really don't hinder me much, I just tell people that not everyone gets to sleep with a 200 pound vibrator, parkinsons has it's advantages now and then lol. The anti-KOA is slowly coming together lol, now if the load restrictions were off so the guy with the bulldozer could move his dozer I've got a days work for him leveling stuff and grading, and I need the access road to the open area filled and leveled. Lots of good things to do.

Hey Cody, where are you at in the UP? We live in Wisconsin but spend a lot of time up near Watersmead at Bond Falls. We have actually looked at buying a piece of land up there just to park the bus on. Beautiful country that's for sure.

John, the project is in skanee, northeast of L'Anse by about 20 miles, we're about a mile from the Big Huron River and about a mile from Lake Superior on the upper skanee road, if you look at the big arm jutting out into lake superior and then look east of it past keweenaw bay and huron bay you'll see skanee on the shore of lake superior, from watersmeet you go to bruces crossing, then north to the covington junction and west to L'Anse, thru downtown L'Anse then out the skanee road for 20 miles. For buying purposes you need to watch out for baraga township and lanse township, they both have projects going on that will hit you hard with property taxes, arvon township in skanee has a low tax base and land is reasonable, after L'Anse built a new school and built a new horsepistal and now they are complaining that they need all new sewer systems and treatment plants, that equals out to millage thats coming down in the near future, skanee is an older community and actually has a school with, I think 4 students in it and is a nice slow lifestyle, course you have to drive a ways to find a walmart(60 miles) or a lowes(90 miles) but there are local places that you can buy what you need, the mom and pop stores still are alive and well. Up here you can hunt and fish or just sit and relax, nobody will bother you, people don't stand very close together up here so lots of room to swing your arms.

I appreciate your concern but if I honored all the restrictions that the doctors have placed on me I would be a lump watching the sun come up and go down with nothing in between, for the last couple of years they have even placed me on a 5 pound lifting restriction, with that I can't even get constipated. Life isn't structured that way, I don't have anyone that does my work, I do it myself and accept the risks that come along with that choice, sometimes that means I've got to bend the rules, when I feel that I need to sit down for a while I find a chair and relax. The good lord has given me some things that, at times, can be damn inconvienent but life goes on in spite of it. My parkinsons gives me the claim of being the only 200 pound vibrater that doesn't run on 240volts, my MS gives me the right to be grouchy when the weather changes and my congestive heart failure gives me great parking places at walmart, how many others can count their blessings with such wonderous results, I've even got handicapper plates on my bus so I can grab that choice parking spot in front of the store and driving lights on my chair, helll yeah, life is good.

lol, I asked the doctor if I have to sit down to pee now, he just shook his head and walked away, that was the same day that after I found out that one of my stents had been recalled, I gave him an envelope with a ball point pen ink refill spring that I had dunked in ketchup I told him I saved him some time,, the nurse said that was the first time in the 20 years she had worked with him that anyone had grossed him out lol.

Lol Cody, you sound like my kinda guy! Thanks for all the good info. We have toured all over up there and I have been through L'Anse. We have camped at various areas around there. I think we camped on the southwest corner of L'Anse Bay at a state park there. At some point I would like to "pick your brain" about the cost of land and taxes as you seem to have soem information about it and we are finding out we really don't know enough. The area around Bond Falls was all owned by the Electric company and then all of a sudden they decided to sell the flowage off to private owners which limited drastically the access to the area. I want to find somewhere that is remote enough that it won't be built up in my life time (may not be too long the way I feel these days!). Anyway, I would like to keep in correspondence with you if your able.
My email and phone should be on my profile.
Thanks again for the good info.

John that would have been the baraga state park, nice spot at the head of the bay on the west side, a lot of people don't care for the slower pace of life up here and get bored easily but I find it facinating, each day there are things to do, from blueberry picking, to walking down the miles of untouched sand beaches along the lake, nice carpet of pine needles. This area is heavily to logging but mining is still going on cause of the mineral content and the relatively untapped Huron Mountains,, you can still pan gold in the streams and come home with some, and copper can be found most anywhere, my daughter called this morning, she was all excited, her boyfriend and her found a chunk of float copper that weighs out at around 700 pounds, she is going to use it to put a new engine in her jeep, it's a different world up here. Up here there are lots and lots of not much but it's all good stuff. If you like fishing we have some decent fishing too, there is a vein of agate about a mile from the skanee house that a person can pry out chunks that weigh 30 pounds or more, will make a belt buckle that would make a texan smile lol. My dad made their fireplace out of lake sandstone and agate and float copper, when the light hit it, it glowed. There are indian burial mounds that date back over 1000 years, lots of intersting stuff to poke around at. Some of the roads in houghton were made by crushing the rock from the 'poor rock' piles at the copper mines then mixed with asphalt, the road surfaces have a higher copper content than what they mine in many of the mines out west lol.

http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=506453 here is an example of what float copper is, it's usually a chunk of pure copper sometimes it has silver mixed in with it, this particular piece was part of a larger chunk but the frost had broken it off, float copper is pretty common up here, we used to have a older guy that would bring his small travel trailer up and leave it in the corner of the yard year round, he would show up for a week now and then and go fishing, nice old guy, he died a few years ago and his kids came up to get his trailer and couldn't understand why I didn't have a storage or camping bill for them to settle up, it's because charging him never crossed my mind, he kept us pretty well stocked with brook trout and wild berries, the good company we had with him around will always be something I'll treasure. I would drain his tanks and throw a tarp over his roof and tie it down for the winter and it was fine just where it sat, nobody bothers anything up here. I realize this thread is nothing to do about nothing but don't read it if a person doesn't want to follow the rambling mind of an old coot, if it makes a person feel better I'll type the word BUS now and then but I'm harmless.

Got a fun filled day that just reeks with excitement lined up for today got to open up the septic tank and stir it up and get it ready for pumping, needs to be quite fluid for that, it hasn't been used in a while and I want to make sure it is ready, also going to look and see if I can find a place to set up another dump station, right now I've got one behind the house but I want to add another one thats easier to reach, the tank is 1000 gallons and the drain field is 250 ft of 8 inch sand pipe so the system has never given me a moments concern but it hasn't been used for a while so I want to make sure it's still in good shape, thats the plan for today or so I think.

Wow, every three years? I put the septic tank and drain field in back in 1988 and it has been pumped once in all that time. Today I popped the top on it and it looks fine, I had anticipated a solid sludge but it wasn't bad, I added a box of ridex and filled it with fresh water. After it perks for a while I'll recheck it later this spring. I also looked at the possibility of adding another cleanout to the system closer to the side of the house,, right now I have to back the bus around the back of the house to use the "clean out", doesn't look like a problem to me lol. I also found out that the Skanee school has contracted their bus services out to a charter company that is run by a friend of mine and the school(about 5 miles from the house) has a mechanic/bus driver that is there everyday while school is in session and often during the summer, he's a diesel mechanic that works for the charter company and has mucho years while slid under MCI's and VanHools and other big objects that seem to give us pleasure. What tickles me is that they have 2 buses that must hold 30 kids or so and only 4 kids in the school, the bus driver could be driving a minivan lol, but I talked to him and told him of my idea of the anti-KOA and the possible need for a knowlegable BUS mechanic to fix things now and then and he said that if bob says it's ok, he'd be glad to twist a wrench from time to time. Bob Houle is the owner of Superior Coach in Hancock, an all round great guy that has been around revenue buses since time began and one that knows a 2 stroke isn't a weedeater. The story behind that 2 stroke thing is that I called the local detroit/allison service place thats only 90 miles away and asked them about something and explained I have a 6V92 detroit and it's a 2 stroke, the mechanic told me they don't work on weedeaters, he said 2 strokes are weedeaters and other small yard toys and they only work on trucks and buses,, I asked him how old he was, he said 23,, nuff said lol.

Pumping out a septic tank that is working properly and has not had a lot of non digestible things put into it is counter productive!
All you are doing by pumping out a healthy septic tank is reducing the amount of bacteria that liquifies the waste.
As the tank starts again, after pumping, you will be adding a lot of water to the field that has no bacteria culture in it. This can compromise the peculation of the septic field.
I have to assume that where it is mandatory by law to pump out the tank every three years, you have someone on council that owns a honey truck.

Thats why I'm putting off the idea of having it pumped till later, the system has always worked well and I have no reason at this point to doubt that it is still working well, I have a tendancy to over engineer most of what I do lol. In regards to the commentary on the Skanee school, the viability of the school was brought up in private to me as a possible burden on the state and federal government because it only has 4 students, the idea was that they should be intregrated into other school systems in the area, the truth of the matter is that the local community supports the school finacially, no state or federal money is used by the school it is supported by a small millage that is confined to the local township. The school is a model of austerity, the building was built in 1915 and is on the national registry of historic buildings but all work is done by fund raising within the community and local contractors that donate their time or work for a small fee. The school rejected the outside sources for money when it was determined that the red tape that came with the outside funding didn't keep with the idea of what the school was all about, they prefer to teach the children to read and write and are not so interested in organized sports, the sports activities happen naturally at recess just as they used to do years ago and the school also makes sure that they recieve a good lunch and not one that calls ketchup a vegetable like the state determined. The local community also has a volunteer fire department that makes house calls and is all locally funded and supported by the community, the small community is solvent and actually cut property taxes when it was determined 2 years ago that they were operating at a surplus that wasn't needed at that level, it's a good area with great people and yes, our mosquitos were determined to be lutheran by their attendance at a church sponsored picnic last year.

We must have a a very strong "Septic Pumping" lobby here, because our county board requires it every 3 years. From what I understand there were a lot of folks our here in the "sticks" that allowed their systems to fail and just continued to use them pumping the contents out of the tank on top of the ground. This was what they used as a basis for yet another intrusion into my business.

Michigan also has their share of people with too much time on their hands but they do seem to leave local interests up to the local boards for the most part and they seem to have better things to do than to tell people what color socks to wear or what direction to point the grass after mowing it, one example is when I built the house years ago, it was intended to be a camp and all I wanted to do was to put in an outhouse for a while, they told me I couldn't do that cause of the regulations but if I wanted I could build a guest house that was 4x4 with a non-livable basement area, that could be done, there are things I don't like but they are pretty fair most of the time.

I love it. I think the non-livable basement area could be rented out as governement offices... ok ok I know I am waaay off topic here.

Thanks for brightening my day!

I had a strange thing happen today out at the skanee house, 3 big birds walked out of the woods while I was sitting on the steps, I've never seen anything like them they were way bigger than a chicken, had round bodies that were grey with white speckles and white heads, I finally found out on the internet what they were, guinea hens, I've never seen anything like that out there, they walked around the yard for about 20 minutes, then walked back into the woods, somebody must have lost them cause this is the first time I've seen anything like that, now I've got to get feed for them, they are cool and it appears that they like eating bugs, my kinda bird lol.

John and Barb.
Properly set up septic systems don't fail unless they are badly abused.
worst thing to do to a septic field is to have chlorine or other sanitizer going into it.
Gum, ladies needs products and other material can also cause problems but just using it as it was intended will do no damage.

Les, you seem quite knowledgeable in septic systems, when I popped the top on mine a couple of days ago, it had a crust about 2 inches thick that was easily broken up with a 2x4 but was liquid below that, I'm assuming it is healthy but I added a box of ridex to give it a fresh shot of bacteria and then filled it with fresh water after stirring it up,, what can I do to keep it healthy and happy, a happy poop tank means a happy poop tank owner, the grass(weeds? anyway green stuff) has always thrived over the drain field and deer from miles around and the occasional moose have come to graze, I have ample capacity to add a liquid diet to it on a regular basis thru a new clean out but expert advise is always welcome, we have many on the board that seem full of brown stuff but few that are actually in tune with it and I mean that in the best possible way lol. The background on this marvelous aid to human existance came into being when I first did a perk test and couldn't get a reading, the water disappeared as fast as I poured it into the hole so it seamed that drainage wouldn't be an issue so the local county health board told me to put in the tank with 200 ft of 4 inch perforated orangeburg pipe so I installed a 1000 gallon cement tank but put in 250 ft of 8 inch sand pipe cause my concern was the composition of the ground could tend to result in infiltration of the pipe by the heavy sand mix surrounding it, I layed the pipe in a crushed rock bed. I also took the system one step beyond by adding an auxiliary 250 gallon tank that is dedicated to the clothes washer to prefilter the wash water that would have detergeent in it from the wash cycle and always tryed to use biodegradable detergent so the water hitting the septic tank would already be prefiltered before it hit, what improvements could be done to make this system work better short of adding seat belts and hand grips to the toilet to protect the seated parties during the flush.

I'm sitting here with my panda cat on my lap, she is scared of electrical storms and we are having a good one, the outside sky is lit up like daylight with the lightning tracing thru the air, I have a good maxell whole house surge protection system so I'm not concerned about the electrical activity but I have a cat that is trying to climb inside my t-shirt and is shivering and scared, thats why I'm up at this time of morning when most retired people are heavily engaged in all things sleep related. She doesn't do well in hail storms inside the bus either lol.

Dan
Sounds like you have more problems with your cat than with the septic system.
As long as the crust on top was a build up of organic material and the bacteria is working to liquify the solids and the field is draining you have no problems.
I assume that this system is in regular use and not left dormant for long periods of time?
The bacteria starter is the cheapest insurance that you can get for the system.
Was the crust only on the primary side of the tank or was it on the secondary side as well? Assuming two part tank
Separating the grey water from the rest of the effluent is not necessary especially if you use biodegradable laundry products.
If your water is very hard and you use a water softener you might want to run the backwash water to a separate tank, not because of the salt but because of the volume of cold water going into the tank all at once
With a high percolation rate the size of the discharge pipes is less critical because you don't need the time for the pipes to empty.
Sounds like you have a good handle on what you are doing.
Don't be in a big hurry to fill the tank with "fresh" water because all that does is cool off the tank and give the culture nothing to digest. It can actually slow down the process.
Keep on keeping on!

Les, the house sat empty for a year with only occasional use, maybe a weekend a month, but it's going to be lived in again by the end of the month, I don't remember if it's a 2 chamber tank, that was back in 1988 and I had it placed in the hole by a large backhoe that unloaded it and set it at the same time, the water out there is soft water, no need for a conditioner, the main reason I added water after stirring it up is because the water level wasn't as high as it normally is when it's in use, the well is 280 ft deep and is into an underground river, when the bit broke thru into a pressure dome the water sprayed above the hight of the drill rig for several hours, the current pulled the bit to the side and the driller couldn't retrieve it so had to cut the cable, the water is clear and cold, great tasting water. From what I saw when I popped the inspection port on the top I'm sure it's in good shape, time will tell but it appears to be ok.

The plan for today is to pick up some scratch feed to encourage the guinea fowl to stay around and to maybe draw any that might be still in the woods to come out, the way they eat bugs and other crawly stuff, I want them, when we had a handfull of chickens years ago we didn't see an ant or anything like that, I'm also going to see what it would take to raise the living room floor and bedroom floor level with the dining room and kitchen, the living room is a small step down thru an archway but it looks that it's only a drop of about 4 inches which would make it great, 2x4's and underlayment and it's all level, and it wouldn't affect the fireplace, the hearth is higher than that, I want to foam between the 2x4's if I do that to super insulate the floor cause there is only a crawl space under the house, with the goal going self sufficient I'm trying to do whats needed, costing less for utilities helps everyone cause I figure to only hope to cover the cost of them when people come in, like I said before the idea is not to create a campground but to make a place where buses can come for as long as they want without killing the bank like the parks do.

Work got dragged to a stop for a couple of days partly due to a minor cardiac event I got inadvertantly invited too and partly cause of an overdue nap. Was raining anyway so good time to take a break and sort stuff at the baraga house, still stuff to haul, spent a couple of days sitting around and boxing stuff up and doing other odd things, I figure now it's time to wander back out and finish the bedroom floor, that way all the bedroom stuff can be removed from the livingroom, which will give me a chance to work on the living room and set that up for sitting and looking outside at the work I should be doing out there. I talked to jamie, the one in africa on a school trip, and she will be home on the 23rd, so that'll be good, she is always a big help, I've postponed the roof work until she is there to grade my high dive, I hate to have an important event like the end of my walking go unnoticed by anyone that knows how to call an ambulance if needed, still some roof work to do, but for now the floors need my undivided attention and then the piping under the house where my esteamed and ex son-in-law left the water on and allowed everything to freeze solid and bust. That is one of the most important things on my list before jamie gets home, she is of the mind that water is a good thing, especially where showers and toilets come to mind, the well has plenty of water, just need to provide a distribution system for it.

NO! more minor cardiac events except for a regular and consistent thump thump sound coming from the left side of your chest. Other action will not be tolerated and could ruin your whole day.
Is he ex because he is a dumb ass that left the water on or was there some other minor issue?... Wait- wait, I don't want to know!
Further more, until further notice. All falling off of roofs is suspended regardless of whether such falling causes injury or not. By the way the number for NINE ONE ONE is 911. Please don't look for an eleven on your phone.
It is strongly recommended to anticipate then enjoy the return of before mentioned loved one.
That is all

Les, minor cardiac events are a fact of life with me and a regular occurance, they are also very inconvienent but I've gotten used to working around them, I was asked in private, what, if anything, this thread has to do about buses and I'm not sure if I explained the reason for this but I'm sure I have at some point lol, the place is to serve as the anti-KOA, a place where bus friends can come and relax and maybe pile up some sawdust and stay for a while without incurring site charges, a minor donation to cover the possible use of electric is appreciated but not expected, some seem to feel that I can pile sawdust without it tipping over so maybe I can be helpfull in some way, it's not a campground, it's the anti-KOA lol. If this thread serves as a violation or bending of the rules, Ian can remove it or mark it as he see's fit, I'm very agreeable to whatever fate befalls it,, BW has known me for many years as have many of the others here and I'm really quite harmless, sometimes, being this shy and innocent is a curse, but it's something I have to live with until my quest for sainthood is finished and the statue is erected, pigeons got to sit somewhere after all.

That makes me feel better, I know that sometimes when topics drift people can get upset and my normal state is to be wandering aimlessly in no particular direction. This project seems to be taking forever but it does seem to progress slowly and I guess thats what really counts, I can tuck a couple of buses up by the house now and thats a start I guess, it'll get better as time goes by. I missed out on a nice little Ford/Ferguson tractor with a 5ft tiller on the back, there was no phone number or price on it, it was just parked on the corner down the road where people put stuff they want to sell, I asked one guy that was looking at a truck if he knew anything about the tractor or where it was, he said it sold for 1850, that was a cheap price,, I could have almost handled that,, so I missed out, it would have come in handy.

I was going to spend some hard hours at the place today but that may have gotten shortened, I've heard the pinks are in the river, I'd like to put a few pounds of salmon in the freezer.

Today was an interesting day,, I got the first customer for the anti-KOA,, I was working with the table saw when a suburban with what looked like a cut off van pulled up out on the road, it had slowly ground it's way to a stop, an old guy that looked at least 90 got out and hobbled down to say hi,, he asked me if I would change a flat tire for him for 2o bucks, I told him I would be proud to change his tire for free if he would pull it into the driveway what a battle,, the cutoff van was equiped with a homemade tongue and plywood enclosed the front he had a cot in it and a coleman stove and a coleman light with a cooler,, it was a camper. The tire had left the rim about 10 miles up in the hill according to him and he had dragged it all the way to where it sat now, we wire brushed the mass of rust that at one time were studs lol,, then worked until each was loose, what a job, what seemed like hours later the rim was off and we had the spare tire on and were tightening it up, before he left he asked me if I could fix his door latch, it turned out a little oil did a great job,, he again offered the 20,, I told him to keep it, I was proud to be able to help,, then I asked him if he ever thought about tinkering with his camper and maybe making it a little more convienent, he said he just didn't have the money to do it, that he lived with his daughter and now and then he takes off to go fishing for a couple of days. He has been invited back in june and I've got a sink and water tank and some other things that I think would fit in there along with a fold up table that would serve as a place to have coffee where he can look out the window and a rod rack to hold his fishing stuff, I think his camper might be able to be just a tad nicer if he will let me, he said he was 94,, if I reach anywhere close to that age I just hope I can enjoy life half as much as he seems to. It made me proud to be able to use the anti-KOA as I had intended it to be used.

George, all dogs are welcome big or small, barkers or quiet, no problem, let the dogs enjoy their vacation too, this project is still in a major state of primitive, but it'll get better, I'm doing everything I can to hurry stuff up but I'm old and poor so it gallops along at a snails pace lol. I wanted to wait till I could get the bulldozer in and do the leveling but I've got room in the yard around the house and it would be a shame not to use it, so many good people that I haven't met yet. I'm still in baraga traveling out to the skanee house each day to work on it but within a few days I'm going to be living there and I think it'll progress a little faster then.

Tomorrow will be a busy day for this old guy, I've got to finish changing out the tires on the back of a subaru wagon I'm redoing so I can get the big floor jack freed up to take it to the skanee house, I think I have blown a brake line on my pickup, the brakes worked fine a mile down the road when a deer ran out but when I went to stop and turn into the driveway, the pedal went to the floor,, so I coasted to a stop, backed up and pulled into the yard, tucked it out of the way and now am using a spare jeep that I had out there. I've popped the hood and the master cylinder is out of fluid but haven't crawled under, hopefully it's one of the rubber lines, those don't corrode as badly,, I stand a fighting chance of getting it loose so I can take it in and get a replacement, then I've got 3 sheets of underlayment left to put in the bedroom to finish that part of the project so I can get the bed and dressers out of the living room, it may even soon look like what could be mistaken for somebodies home, then I've got to replumb the kitchen and bathroom, all this has to happen this weekend cause jamie is coming home from africa on monday. It'll be nice to have her back home cause I have work I need to do on the roof and I need somebody able to call whatever number 911 is when I step back to admire my work again. I've also acquired a major pile of vinyl siding that may find it's way onto the sides of the house at some point this summer, I found a yard sale at a lumber yard and bought a bunch of light brown siding, a bunch of boxes of it and a massive pile of loose stuff, it'll be fun. What I need to find is a bulldozer that is laying abandoned and unloved somewhere, buying one is not in the budget, renting one has also left the budget with the find of the siding, now I may need to steal one quietly as it sleeps under a tree somewhere. Bulldozer and a tractor with a loader will probably have to wait till next year,, I've bitten off enough to keep me busy for a while. In regards to policies, there are no policies, this is the anti-KOA, let the dogs bark, run the generators, play the music loud if you want, this is the woods. I'm just a guy, not the park god that sits in judgement of what you drive in with, if you're ok with me then I'm ok with you.

Another battle I'll be fighting is how to set up wifi for the area, I've got good DSL out there with a great signal but we have so much mineral content in the ground that nobody can get cell phone coverage in my yard or anywhere close to the yard but i've set up unlimited long distance on the phone, anyone that is hoping to use an air card will probably find it doesn't work very well if at all so I've been looking at the possibility of some kind of outdoor booster antenna so the wifi will be available, we've already got a wireless system so it should be able to be set up somehow, then I'll find a cement mixer for those odd jobs that just need the extra touch that only cement can give it,, like footings lol. Lots of fun stuff life is good lol.

Murphy smiled on me and gave me a busted stud on the back of the subaru so now I've got to get the drum off and replace the busted one, figure I'll replace all the ones on that drum while I've got it off so picked up 4 studs and lugs nuts for it, I sprayed it down with PB blaster today and am letting it sit overnight, there is a major bolt in the center holding the drum on, I think subaru is the only one that has this setup in the rear, at least the only one I've seen like this,, all of the other wheels came off and got new tires, just this one left and the tire is all set and eager to go on with it's new rubber all shiney and new. After that is conquered I'll take the big floor jack to skanee, and find the busted brake line and fix that on the truck so I can continue to haul big stuff like washers and dryers and stuff like that to complete the move. Spent this evening setting up little peat pots with flower seeds, got about 10 flats of them ready to take out and see if they will grow anything besides weeds, I want to take time to smell the flowers but got to bust my tail planting them before I can smell them, got some big windows on the south side so they can get some quality sunlight to grow. And got another flowering crab apple tree to plant out there, I really like it when they are in full bloom, no worries about cleaning up the apples when they fall, the deer take care of that project for me. Life is good, I kinda figured I'd get left behind when the rapture took all the good people, even had the evening party planned at the bank but they didn't get taken either so scratch that idea,, wonder if the bulldozer and backhoe people got taken, probably not. I saw a show on tv that had a bunch of VW microbuses on it, those were kinda cool, some were factory set up for camping,, I think they called them vanagons, pop top roofs and cool stuff, also saw some MG's that were little 2 seater convertibles, super cool little go things, we can't find cool toys like that and unless I can move dirt with them I can't afford to think about such luxury,, wonder what kind of fuel milege they get lol.

Hi Cody,

I have a '68 MGB and they are a fun car. It has an inline 4, 1800cc w/4 speed. Some had overdrive. Probably gets crappy mileage, but no one cared back then. Parts are easily available through Moss Motors and others. Poor man's sports car, and they can be had for well under 5K for a decent runner. We love ours. Can't haul much dirt, but you are closer to it.

Rose (my wife) wants us to visit you when we get the '04 up and running again. We'll bring dirt.

Good luck with your projects, and look into that "B". You might be surprised...

That would be cool, I've never stood closer than a picture to one. The project gives primative a bad name but each day I see improvement, when your doing it by yourself, it takes time, especially when your old and ugly too, sometimes I've got to chase the shovel around the house 2 or 3 times before I corner it.

The last couple of days new flooring has been going in,, it's a good grade of laminate in a light oak pattern, got enough for the bedroom (16x16) and living room (16x20), sure seems to be a lot of ups and downs, when I built the house I seem to remember the floors being closer to waist level, with the fluctuating heat levels possible, I decided to go with laminate instead of solid hardwood flooring, cause when the kids are out of medical school my plans are to start going south for the winters again and I'd close up the house for that, not good for solid hardwood floors.
