I ran into a granite product at the local home show. It is called Granite transformations. The product is cut ¼ inch thick and designed to be installed over an existing tile or laminate counter top. Of course it can be installed over ¾ plywood.
This may be another vendor / manufacturer for a similar product that was featured in bus conversions magazine about one year ago. Was that product granite-lite? Of course they are trying to sell franchises, not product to DIY folks. I didn’t get any cost information but the cost is probably similar to the cost of “real” granite.

.

Cost should be a lot less and the weight savings
should be tremendous .

Flexstone is a similar product with a mesh
backing to prevent cracking. It is used by
several of the bus converters instead of thick
slabs for flooring and tops .
