We knew that members of Congress and their business allies were gearing up to pass a revised Internet Blacklist Bill -- which more than 325,000 Demand Progress members helped block last winter -- but we never expected it to be this atrocious. Last year's bill has been renamed the "PROTECT IP" Act and it is far worse than its predecessor. Senators Leahy and Hatch pretended to weigh free speech concerns as they revised the bill. Instead, the new legislation would institute a China-like censorship regime in the United States, whereby the Department of Justice could force search engines, browsers, and service providers to block users' access to websites, and scrub the American Internet clean of any trace of their existence. Will you urge Congress to oppose the PROTECT IP Act? Just click here: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/protectip_docs/?referring_akid=a1454657.332463.ETWULl&s ource=auto-taf Furthermore, it wouldn't just be the Attorney General who could add sites to the blacklist, but the new bill would allow any copyright holder to get sites blacklisted -- sure to result in an explosion of dubious and confused orders. Please help push Congress to oppose the PROTECT IP Act by clicking here: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/protectip_docs/?referring_akid=a1454657.332463.ETWULl&s ource=auto-taf Thanks for fighting back! |

Huh? This from a Canadian in whose country we just elected your equivalent of THE PRESIDENT, and no one in America, not here anyways, even noticed. And I should be interested in this because...? Please, go somewhere else to discuss politics, k? This is a bus board. Ahhhh! I feel better, having purged :-) Ian www.busnut.com |

Ian I think this is an American issue that will affect the way we can use the internet, at least that's how I understand it. but this is your board please delete this if you see fit to. Obviously I am having difficulties what OFF TOPIC matter is allowed and what isn't. but in time I will get the hang of it. |

"This from a Canadian in whose country we just elected your equivalent of THE PRESIDENT, and no one in America, not here anyways, even noticed." Informed USA Folks noticed , the US media did not notice as he is a conservative that wants to cut taxes, and free people. Were he another Socialist like our white house occupant , the clamor would have been HUGE!!! And given weeks of air time. Reducing business taxes to 15%!!! , you can hear a pin drop from the LESS (Liberal Establishment Socialist Scribes). Personal responsibility is another non stater with the LESS. FF |

Ian isnt removing this, so I guess he "tolerates" this stuff... I dont know anything about setting up boards, but would it be possible to have a separate section on BNO called the "campfire ring" or something for OT Maybe then no one would get upset and the board would be as Ian wanted? HCB, everyone here can say this; some know me more than others. And if you knew me better, you'd know real from jest with me. This was in jest. Clearly there are no physical borders on the internet, so have at it, I say, for real. I'm happy simply to be the royal reminder of the use of "OT" as the only place anything needs to be different. If it were your board, I'm sure it would be wonderful, but after six or seven or eight or ten years of close scrutiny, you would find, as I have, that the board no longer would be yours, it would be the contributors' and no amount of moderation would help nor hinder, but it would always be scrutinized ;-) Every time you click anything with the "OT" signature, you are stepping into the "campfire ring". Welcome. The more the merrier, as Dave Galey always said. Where are you these days, Dave Galey? But I digress. Happy weekend all. You DO get weekends in the U.S, yes? Enjoy :~) Ian www.busnut.com |

How about taking this stuff to the NPR board or National Review board and get back to buses. Everyone has political opinions and rarely have theirs changed. We come here to get away from this. |

So again if it is OT, OT, Marked OT, ot, and anything with "OT" at the start or at the beginning of a thread. OT will and has been and in the future,to this point standing for "OFF TOPIC" or meaning NOT ABOUT BUSES. Which for some is very hard and upsetting to understand??? If you (by "YOU"that means the person which opens it and see the words in front of them going through their head)and probably other things too which they don't understand!.... That will mean don't open it because unless you understand what is meant by the WARNING of OT (SEE ABOVE) it might offend you, Bore you, or even give you a new outlook on your life or lack there of. Maybe just something to ponder! So this being said Does everyone now finally understand OT???? If you do not by now understand it, Please get out of your Bus because you should not be on the road driving a vehicle that weighs almost 40,000 lbs. Chromie |

Okay, back to the OT subject of the OP. I signed and put it on my fb. I did read awhile back that the US was thinking about doing this after the mid east exploded and the "rebels" had organized online. The USs position was that they would only use it in times of "emergency" |

Does all this mean that if I mention bus or coach on an OT thread it is officially hi jacking that thread? Teresa: I remember a rumor that was going around that the post office wanted to impose a 5 cent per e-mail charge because they were losing money... Turned out to be a joke... no kidding! Seems like we all thrive on scare stories. |
