1983 Prevost LeMirage - $75,000 – SHARRAN, MA

A friend of mine asked-me if this was a good deal?
I told him that I would ask around.
1983 PREVOST Mirage, Conversion ready for interior.
9-inch roof raise, 11 ft slide out, new polished skin and
rub rails. New motor w/ no miles, 8V92 Allison Auto Trans
just rebuilt, Bennit Shifter, new glass, Alcoa wheels, new
tires, all new air bags + shocks, brakes, Bus air and heat...
too much to list. Willing to trade or sell towards 95 or
newer Prevost Completed. Updated dash and gauges,
great coach for someone with interior conversion skills.

As long as you ask, I would say no, it's not a good deal (although my instincts tell me that you should tell your friend to just buy an ad if he wants to sell a coach here on Ian's board ;-)

The reason I say "no," and, in fact, I would actually say to stay away from this coach at any price, is that the slide-out has clearly been hacked in without the required additional structural support to deal with the loss of framing. Unsafe at any speed (or price) would be my (non-expert) opinion...

Begs the question: What happened?

It looks like this was intended to be an incredible machine when finished and I don't really much care for LaMirage's why did they quit on it?

This bus was just recently on ebay. See Item # 2457902659. The bid went to $40,100. A far cry from $75,000.00. That must tell you something. I am about 30 minutes from Sharon, Ma. I would look at it for you if that helps. Check the web site for completed conversions from several companies. For $50,000 more, get one professionally done from a high end company. (my two cents worth)Vern (in RI)

Thanks to all,
I will relate these messages.
I just don't know too much about rebuilding a Bus.
*By respect to this board, «That is why I didn't indicate
the phone numbers, related numbers or references

My friend was only looking for expertise and I think you
delivered quite clearly. Thanks again to all.

I would say that $40k is about what its worth, maybe a little more if all the work was verified as being quality work, and the engine was done properly. As some of the other posts indicate, a half finished project carries risks that can be unseen, and so is worth less than the sum of its parts. Probably cost him the $75 to get it where it is, but since he bought it, shells have come down further in price, and the engine is old technology, and you don't get paid for your labor but that stainless is pretty... I would gues that a regular seated bus in decent shape of that year could be had between $25k and $30k, even less if its 96" wide. so how much is that other work worth?

I'm sure he's also tired of working on it, but that's the nature of these things, I am going to be tired of working on mine before I finish too.

Bandco, after studying the detail and workmanship that has been done so far on this unit, I have come to (my own) conclusion that your friend will have no trouble getting close to what he is asking. This coach looks like it has been professionaly done and with great care. However having said that, looks can be decieving. Cheers, Emery

2 Dogs. If you can find a Mirage in that condition for $15000, (you said $75000 was $60000 too high) I will purchase it and pay you a $5000 finders fee.

Serious.

you can't create a conversion by throwing money at it..who knows what he did or why he lost interist......I'd rather have one that had not been tampered with,...or...a completed one that I could be happy with the completed item...one thats half done & dumped, not worth much to me...

Do you mean to tell me that it is worth less than a used ex-charter Mirage passenger bus, with the work that has been done to it?

I would agree with H3Jim that it is probably worth $40k-50k and maybe a little more depending on verification of work. Maybe not $70k, but definitely more than $15-25k.

Things and priorities change in everybody's life. Just because one does not finish a project does not immediately imply that it was a slipshod conversion and had insurmountable problems so as to make one abandon it.

Looking at the pictures it shows a coach that had substantial funds spent on it and by the looks of it pretty good workmanship. The slide is suspect as with any non factory slide.

BTW. ALL conversions are completed by throwing money at them. Some of us just have more money to throw at things than others. What we cannot throw in money, we attempt (and often succeed at) to do ourselves to bring our conversions to a level of comfort and completion to our liking or ability.

I have yet to meet anyone with a beautiful coach that has not spent considerable time and money in the building of their dream.

Have to agree w/JoJo. Conversions are created by throwing money at them, and even with some good buys here and there, if u end up with a quality product, you threw some big bucks at it: probably more than what it is worth when finished, but, you have YOUR conversion, done as YOU wanted it.

As for the subject one, probably worth in the hi 30's-low 40's. You can buy a damn nice factory conversion Prevo, late 80's, early 90's 80k-110k, and I'm talking CC, Marathon, Parliament, Royale, etc. So, this one is way over at 75k, but certainly more than 15k.

I have been studying that slide, can't tell what supports it or what makes it operate in and out. Anyone know?
