Yup, when driving truck, I always tried to take a nap from 3 until 5, eat dinner, then drive until about 02:00, fuel, breakfast, sleep until 07:30. Never go through a city during rush hour. Never go through a congested zone when there is a wreck mentioned on the CB. |

...and then there are times... Time the departure from Tucson to arrive in L.A. about 2-AM hauling 2 race cars, with a stout Dually, in a 28-ft'er. 1:30-AM outside Newhall...bumper to bumper . 4-hrs later, Gardenia @ sun-up. |

Unfortunately, a coach driver does not have that luxury to stop and avoid the witching hour... The schedule is the schedule, and the "freight" gets pretty riled up if the driver stops for a nap! The worst is a spare driver being forced onto the overnight. No regular hours, rest cycles are erratic, last 72 hours of their life may involve some horrible short turn arounds. The condemning issue is if it is a regular driver without the self discipline, so missing in our world today, to get the proper rest to do the assigned duties safely. Child care and moonlighting are two excuses. And after they've killed someone, they wish they'd conducted themselves differently. It is not popular to consider that many lives are in your hands, and if you can't get 8 hours of "left alone" during the daylight hours for rest, you'd best get out of the business. Coach driving is a lifestyle, not a job. The time is fast approaching for the pendulum to swing back the other way. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Looks to me like part of the dash and the steering wheel in in the field... whole front end is a mess. I don't see how the driver lived through that, but the article said he was in stable condition. No mention of another vehicle involved or possible cause. Russell |

The bus was hit head on by a car that crossed the center line. The female car driver was killed. The bus driver and another passenger were seriously hurt. |
