This is just out, Bill Gates is heading the push under the thought that charging email would become too costly for the spammers.
Here is the link-- Enjoy

I taught my parrot to poop when I say Bill Gates. Do you not get SPAM mail served to you from the US Postal Service? Applications for credit you do not need. Male enhancement.... Maybe some people do need. There will always be spam. There will always be stupid people in the world. There will always be the antichrist, well until the LORD has enough. We just need to start forwarding the SPAM to our local, state and federal representatives. When they get enough, they will find an end to it. Since those poor misguided people are probably using winBlows, they will have crashes, viruses and other microSloth problems. GOD bless you! That is as far as I will PUSH my faith on you all.

Cory -- yes, I would pay for a "premium" email service, with the understanding that it's impossible to every stamp out either spam or "free" email (whatever that means -- I still pay a bundle for my bandwidth).

Jim -- this is not an urban legend. I believe what you are thinking of is the urban legend that resurfaces constantly around the 'net that the USPS is somehow going to start charging for email. Gates really did fire off his mouth on this subject, no legend to it.

Jeff -- sorry, but for me personally, that's too much of a PUSH already.

I used to get between 40 and 60 spam msgs per day till I changed my settings provided by my ISP. They have a built in spam filter and you set the parameters to suit youself. Now I get zero.

Ed: Same here, I've filtered down to maybe 4-6 day, out of perhaps 30-40, which I can certainly live with, since I get more junk "mail" than that from a service provider, USPS, that encourages junk as revenue enhancing.

What's really fun is to follow the links in many of those spam emails to see where they go (DON'T DO THIS WITH INTERNET EXPLORER, USE OPERA OR NETSCAPE WITH JAVA AND JAVASCRIPT DISABLED) and snoop around on the servers.

These critters are notoriously stupid when it comes to security and you can find some interesting stuff on these servers.

I particularly like the phishing spams that hunt for credit card numbers from Paypal users, as I keep a text file with a fake but real looking list which is handy for filling their "ill gotten booty" with enough garbage data to ruin their day while thinking they struck the mother lode. :)

There are some extra-curricular activities I do with other servers which are featured in spam emails, but I can't discuss that in public, if you know what I mean. Suffice it to say, I have no problem with anyone running whatever legal business they want on the net, but shove it in my face and I might just get pissed off enough to cause someone some problems.

I did'nt say it but good for you Phil, I wish I knew how to do that as well.

No this was no spam, that link takes you right to CNN where they reported BIll Gates spouting his big mouth again. You would think, after he has the users of the computer worlds hands tied (and most of our money flowing quite freely to him on a frequent basis as op systems change what we can and cant use) that he would back off.

Oh well, I am just a computer user and stuck with MicroSloths software too.

I dunno, I don't think I like the idea of paying for internet after I have to pay for a provider. I have to think this one over.....

Remember a spammer is always a spammer who finds another ways to get around the loop hole.

Also remember there is cost overhead to run this "e-postal" set up and not counting for profit.

Anything is possible to avoid “e-postal fee” by reprogramming their software.

Bill Gate already knows that.

We will still have problem plus we are paying for wasted service.

Then later if not even right then, even more problem compounded.

I don’t care for spam mail too, however using Microsoft Outlook “Rule Wizard” and “Create Rule” easily eliminated all repeat spam.

Other than it eliminates spam well, it put the files into proper folder to your liking.

That must simpler then to pay postal service.

All in all this minor problem to us then Bill Gate’s plan.

Bill Gate or whoever typhoons will find something else to make more money than this plan.

I admirer Bill Gate for his past (most) works but this is a no no.

Hackers are the ones to be concern with.

They are ones who can or are in control to corrupt our internet system world wide.

For what it worth.
I enjoy and read board everyday.

Me for one would rather deal with all the spam and stuff on MY OWN TERMS rather than have big brother get his big nose inside the tent. (again)

Hmmm OUTLOOK

Tried it and cant keepit running.

When it goes down, it is like an act of congress to get it to run again. I absolutley hate it, it is a big pain in the Engine Compartment. Its great when it is running but when it goes down, and that is FREQUENTLY, you gotta whole lotta trouble.

You wouldnot beleive the amount of spam that clogs my email but there seems to be no way to rid of it. I am about ready to give up on email.

As for Billy Boy Gates, he turned his back to the people, the consumer, when he charged outrageous prices for software and op systems. sure, he moved us ahead on the internet, heck he put us on the internet, but he obviously charges too much, he is a multi, multi billionaire, does that make you think????
