I'm sitting here on the couch in the skanee house, happy as a bug on poop, a while ago I watched a nice buck walk out with the start of a good rack in velvet,, then 2 squirrels playing chase, life is good right now.

Nope just me and my daughter, Mama has her own apartment for now, she'll wait till more of the work is done and it's a little more to her liking, she is getting so difficult lately, now she wants running water, where will it end.

Who the hell wants a privy in the house, the one at the end of my block works fine, it's a fine chance to chat with the neighbors and I don't need to clean it.

It's hard to imagine where it will end, maybe electicity or some fool idea like that? Actually, we have a well and septic system and the house already has a runaway chithouse inside but my idiot exson-in-law used the house and never drained the water afterwards, I've almost got everything replaced and working but not quite yet. He cashed out all the scrap metal including my olds touring sedan that was in the shed, I heard he got 175 bucks for that. But all things concidered I'm happy, the sun came up today and I'm where I want to be and not in prison like I would be if I let him have his just rewards, saw a doe with twin fawns today so just another great day.

I went down to visit my version of the Skanee House last week, in Tatamagouche Nova Scotia. Worked on my bus barn (used to be a boat building shed) so it will be ready for winter. One the way down I was an Elk standing on the side of the highway at around 4 AM. On the way back saw a couple of deer, and a black bear ambled across the road in front of me...

We're located less than a mile from the Big Huron River home to salmon and rainbow trout runs and good brook trout fishing, also close to Lake Superior with tall pines and miles of sand beaches that nobody uses cause there just isn't anyone around here lol, behind the house is 40 miles of nothing but the Huron Mountains and a couple of camps and a couple of 2 track roads, lots of streams and rivers for gold panning and more than a fighting chance of finding something or copper shooting where you look for float copper that can weigh tons, lots of deer,, bear, a few moose and wolves, various assorted critters of all kinds except the human kind, not too many people around here, thats what I like about it, people don't stand to close together, you can swing your arms and not belt anyone except a mosquito or three.

Dan...
any truth to the rumors that Mosquitos regularly fly into K.I Sawyer, are refueled & take off before anyone realizes that it wasn't a B-52..? (Maybe it was Knchloe?)
Either way, I sure could go for a care package of Pasties (Beef & Onion please)

Ok jack, I wasn't expecting that lol K.I.Sawyer has been decomissioned and is now Sawyer International Airport, it's no longer a air force base,, Kinchloe is now a state prison complex, and pasties are still a major food staple here, nobody knows anything about up here so you really caught me off guard lol.

I took a good look atwhat I was doing back in 2008, I had a major heart attack that killed me not once but twice, neither the good lord nor the devil wanted me cause they both threw me back,, I had plenty of time to think about what I wanted to do and what would make me happy, that was the start of this project, now I'm here and couldn't be happier. I've still got plenty left to do but I can do it in my own time and my own way, the main thing is this is what I want to do, I've worked hard all my life and did what society said I should do, I put in 28 years at my job, raised my kids to be good people and paid my taxes on time, now it's my time to enjoy life a little.

Cody
I had a wake up call somewhat similar, I ended up with a bleeding ulcer because of stress, and the surgeon had a notation in the file "not expected to make it" but by the grace of God I am still here. After that episode I changed my way to If I cant get it done today, it will just have to wait because tomorrow we will likely have another day. This happened 35 years ago and has served me well.

Joe.

Joe, I had a notation in my file written by my doctor too but mine said, "patient does not suffer in silence" lol. I think he was refering to my dislike of anything horsepistal related. My intent here is to make this place as self sufficient as I can, I want as much of my food to be free of preservatives and growth hormones as I can get it, I'd also like to provide my own heat by using the wood/coal stove I bought last winter,, I'm looking into wind/solar power so I can be off the grid as much as possible, I've got room for a couple of buses if they should wander in and stay for a while, I object to what the parks charge in this area and the rules that they have that seem to be designed to discourage anyone from enjoying life, thats the basis for calling this the anti-KOA, I feel that in the land of the free, we should be allowed to actually be free or at least as free as possible. Instead of spraying insecticides to kill our roving bugs I'd offer that job to a few chickens that have shown a passion for ants and other bugs in the past, I've also grown fond of actual eggs that arn't loaded with chemicals, right now I can go outside and pick strawberrys to put on my cereal and cut lettus to make a salad with and I like it this way. Here I can tinker with a persons bus a little if they should want some sawdust spread evenly and the local community knows that I'll always have time to grab the DJ setup for an evening if someone finds a need for a fundraiser or a benefit, times are hard right now for many up here and I'm very fortunate to be able to weather the storm with a good pension from my years with the state and it's something I enjoy, it's just something that makes me feel good and I've paid my dues so if I want to do something that makes me feel good, I will.

It was a bad scare for us too, ned, imagine how we felt, here we were just sitting in your hospital room minding our own business dividing up your property when you woke up, we hadn't even got to the MG's yet and there you were, grinning back at us, we had tossed around the idea of being in red devil suits but didn't realize how much the rental was for them and we couldn't find your wallet in time. But anyway,,,,,,,,I had already done what you were doing and I sorta had an idea what was next and when BK said lets go and see ned, I was all for that idea lol.

Hmmmm....maybe not the "right" scenario for...well, levity?

Sounds to me you were given a BIG second chance...as were others (as posted above)....maybe thank your Creator???

Not a chastisement...just an observation. :-)

Glad you are all "among us".

I don't think anyone here doubts the existance of a higher being, we all worship in our own way, some may see the existance of God in the eyes of a small child, others in a field of wild flowers but I think we all feel that this wonderment was created by a devine plan, I appreciate the reminder that sometimes we make light of a near tragic experience but I think it may be less of a show of levity and more of s feeling of trust in the plan of someone greater than us all, every moring when the sun comes up and the birds sing it's a renewal of the promise that if we do the right thing and remember who gave us all this amazing stuff, it'll turn out ok.
