Hello and Happy 4th! I don't think this is my first post, but it might as well be. It's been a long enough time! I've lurked here for a long time and finally made the commitment to a 1954 PD4104-1060. The PO told me it came from Oregon before him and from a Chicago area Greyhound after it's birth. It comes with a little bit of history in a box, but it's still in CA. and I'm still in Oregon. I hope to bring it home before the end of the month, but until then, I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me a little history on it? Any PO's here or anyone that can shed some light on it for me? Thanks! Rick Is a clean engine the sign of a dirty mind? |

Rick Welcome to tne greatest hobby around. I'm sure you will enjoy the 4104. It was a great coach. I think it is RJ that has all the history on the buses and I'm sure he or whoever it is will post it for you. Bill |

Thanks Bill, I finally found a little history on here (search was having issues) that RJ posted for the PO. "PD4104-1060 was delivered new in April of 1954 as fleet number G-6493 to Great Lakes Greyhound Lines, based in Detroit, MI." I'd sure like to learn more, but I'm very proud of it now and this just makes me that much prouder! Rick |

Rick - Welcome to the world of busnuts! Glad you were able to find the history using this site's search engine. Once you've figured it out, it works really well - great resource! I can share with you that back in the days when your coach was new, Greyhound's PM program was the envy of the transportation industry. So, at least for it's 'Hound days, it was well taken care of. As it worked it's way down the 2nd, 3rd and subsequent tier owners, PM becomes more problematic. Traditionally back in those days, Greyhound kept vehicles in their fleet until after the summer peak season of their 10th year, then sold them off during the fall/winter season. So most likely yours remained with them until the fall of 1964 before moving on to it's next owner. The neat thing is that you have bragging rights to say to non-busnuts that you own a "jen-u-wine retired Greyhound!" Welcome aboard! FWIW & HTH. . .

Congratulations on your commitment, some would say we all should be committed. Or maybe it's just me... I too am a proud owner of a retired Hound, 4104-716, also from Great Lakes Greyhound in Detroit. If I'm not mistaken, there are a couple of us here. The wealth of info and the willingness of its members to offer assistance on this site is priceless. (save the $$$ for the bus) Enjoy!!! |

Welcome Rick, I am the proud owner of PD 4104-4520. I wouldn't have any other bus at this time in my life. In the world of computers and electronics, our busses are pretty simple. It is a good way to start your journey, or sickness, whichever you prefer. There are a lot of good people here willing to help. Just ask. Good Luck, Mike |

These are just great ol' buses! You'll fall in love with her. We own PD 4104-4983. As you likely are already aware, you'll find all your answers right here on this board. It is a great forum. Kevin |

Welcome, Rick. 4104-4039 (04/59) has been a great member of our family for 12 years now. She's a retired Trailways from Maryland. We calculate she has between 2 & 3 million miles. |
