Okay, I’ve found a rare bus identical to my Custom Crown, and it’s a parts bus minus engine, tranny and some other components. It’s 600 miles away in the desert, I’ll have just a few hours to collect parts, and won’t likely return in the near future. Almost everything on my bus is in fine shape, so I’m trying to guess what might need replacement over the next 10-20 years

What parts are the most needed for spares? What parts have you replaced with junkyard spares?

I’m thinking exhaust pipes, baggage doors, windows, ??????????

What tools have you found the most useful for this endeavor?

I doubt the parts will have any serious rust or corrosion problems. Removing them with limited tools is going to be my biggest challenge.
I’d like to pull some wheels and brake parts, but doubt I’ll have the time. Crown used rare tamper-proof fasteners all over the coach, which will make removing some items impossible .

Thanks for your input,

Steve

With the tamper proof fasteners I'd bring some blaster for sure and maybe a compressor with some air tools if your short on time.

Steve,

Here is what I'd go for....

Get the entire unit up on blocks and hack everything that holds front and rear axles in. This gives you all brake parts and other goodies. This is hard and heavy work but with a hot wrench it could be done quick.

brake drums and s-cams, I'd chop out the entire axles if I could
trim parts, interior and exterior
dash gauges, if you are using stock units
glass
door hardware, latches and hinges that you are using on your conversion

headlight bezels, bumper covers,

tools...every hand tool that you can carry, a sawzall with blades, bottle jacks and cribbing, a hot wrench is especially useful for this type of adventure.

hth, Tim
