I read about this muffler in an article in USA Today and looked it up on the internet. It looks like it might work on a generator. Any thoughts? Any experience with this unit? Description from net article Dr. Paul Moller, the inventor of the SuperTrapp, reasoned that if you could scavenge residual gas this would allow a stronger charge to enter the combustion chamber, resulting in an increase in performance. The SuperTrapp uses a patented radial diffuser system. A series of discs with a precise gap form an exhaust outlet. By adding or subtracting discs, you can virtually wave tune your engine and carburetion. You can increase or decrease the exhaust outlet size; adding discs opens the system and removing them reduces it. The fewer the discs, the quieter the system; the more discs, the nosier it becomes. SuperTrapp dispenses exhaust gases radially rather than straight out, it is greatly effective in reducing noise levels. This opening and closing of the exhaust exit is very important to tuning. Allowing you to adjust your powerband, according to the type of track you are running. http://www.supertrapp.com/disc_technology/disc_technology.htm Thanks Nelson,Knoxville, TN. |

I remember Super Trapp when they first came out in the early eighties, a bunch of us motorcycle heathens put them on our bikes, could work for a gen I suppose, as I recall though Super Trapps were pretty throaty whether using minimum discs or all of the ones that the pipe came with... Brian |

I would not reccommend using a supertrap if you have low noise levels in mind |

I agree with Doug... the supertrap is a bit loud and not a pleasing tone to my ear. Snake Oil |

Yeah, we also put the Super Trapp on our motorcycle trials bikes years ago. And..they did work by adding or deleting disks to tune the engine... ...particularily with a needle adjustment while at 9000 feet or soosss. But.....they were noisy no matter how few or many muffler disks you added... ....or deleted. We used the Super Trapp because it let use further tune the engine for super low speed performance. How it would work on a gen set..I have no idea. |

If the muffler isn't designed for the specific application, you stand a considerable chance of losing the noise canceling effects for which is the only reason for installing the muffler in the first place. |
