I have an MC-9 that I am going to convert and would like to know about putting in a slide out. Has anyone ever put one in a 9 or is it not a good idea? |

I have a friend, Terry Simpson, who has a 9 with a slide out. He bought it that way from Heartland Coach in Arcadia, Florida. Having had two slide outs in an RV before we got our MCI 8, I'm not a fan, they can have lots of problems. We are fulltimers, and do not feel that we lost anything by going from a 102 inch wide 36 foot motorhome with 2 slide outs to a 96 inch wide 40 foot bus. My friend, Simpson, has had some minor problems with his slide outs, but he is a certified RV tech and can deal with them. He has said if the bus did not come with it, he would not have added it. |

I agree with TwoD and Nick, only my opinion, but I wouldn't install a slide out, especially in a unibody constructed coach, it can be done, but it must be done skillfully or it can be a nightmare and may even effect the structural integrity of your coach. Brian |

If you search the web, you will find slidouts in all kinds of conversions, 5th wheels and RVs. There are good reports as well as very bad ones. A lot of the problem seem to be related to the slideout getting stuck in the OUT position, usually from track flex or just a vehicle that cant take the weight or torqure of the slide out. Other problems include leaks. Do a lot of research befor you make a final decision. "Imagine" cd |

I currently have a Monaco with a slide out. It has not been a problem but I am sure someday it will be!! When I look at replacements I am looked at kind of funny by sales people when I tell them I would like an RV without a slide. We use our Monaco about 120 days a year and I would not miss the slide if I didn't have one. The only thing it adds is hte feeling of room but not much usefull space. The only area where I think the space is of any use is in the kitchen as I can more easily walk by when she is cooking. The space in front of the couch makes you feel more open but the space is not much use. I think a slide in the bedroom might be of more use but not much. |

Dave Galley has a book on slideouts, it is very good and covers all the different body styles. I put slides in mine, it took a lot of research and (A LOT)of work, but I am happy with how it turned out. Slides are no more of a problem than anything else if properly done. Most high end builders don't even offer a non slide version anymore. Tells you a little bit of how popular they have become. |
