15W40 will work fine Jim, but I would use as cheap an oil as I could, you don't want to spend too much money on a boat anchor.

If the 3208 hasn't been upgrade to the 3 ring piston nothing stays in it long enough to worry about it, the dumbest thing Cat ever did trying to use 1 ring per piston

I have a CAT 1160 , the non throw away version of the 3208, hooked to a 6 speed Allison , factory new 150,000 miles ago. $1500,located Arcadia FL.

Pushed a Flex VL 100 at 10mpg , and the higher RPM engine allowed 85 mph should that be a plus.

70mph is no longer the limit in many advanced states.

The main problem with either the 1160 or 3208 was it is a linerless engine that the block was not hardened. Hence around 200,000 miles, the cylinder would mushroom out and cause the rings to bounce and eventually fail. The cure was to bore the block then install steel dry cylinder liners with the fore mentioned 3 ring pistons. Then you had an engine that could go 4-500,000 miles.
If you have a turbocharged 3208, istalling an air to air intercooler would allow up to 320hp from it. Good Luck, TomC

Haven't looked at Da Book in a while , but I believe the 1160 HAS replaceable liners.
