Is it better to strip out the inside with 1X4 and put the plywood to it or put the plywood right to the steel. I have been going around with myself for days on this. Thanks Jerry |

the old 5105 "the man show', has paneling on the walls... underneath there is 3/4x2" stips about 18" apart... horizontal to the floor....the strips are screwed to the aluminum frames in the wall... 1 piece if styrofoam insulation behing the firring strips, and 1 pice cut to fit between them.....it looks pretty good to me... |

jerry I did the same as jimmci9 except mine were a foot apart and i spray foamed. It gave a nice quiet, solid feel to the bus. I Used flat head tec screws as they are self drilling and tapping and they hold very well. Then i used polyurethane construction adhesive and galvinized deck screws when i attached the 1/2" plywood to the strips. This allows you to put a screw anywhere you wish when later attaching stuff to the walls and ceiling. Do it your way and have fun, Its not for the faint at heart. Steve |

I am in the process of doing this now. I am using 1X2 strips spaces about 8 inches apart with closer spacing at the curves of the roof (for attachment points) I will spray-foam the inside after the firing strips are in place (and the electric). The reason is to provide some degree of thermal barrier between the outside metal and the inside. When you screw plywood directly to the metal ftame without an intermediary strip, you have a metal connection between the outside of the bus and the inside. The metal screq head will be near the temp of the outside skin which is much hotter or colder than the inside. This leads to condensation and lots of other problems that I personally want to avoid. In addition, my method will give me a little more insulation overall at a loss of 1 inch of inside width total. Mt Way Doug St Louis MC9 |
