Yesterday a good friend from texas fired his bus up and headed down the road for the next adventure on this summers list for him, which is a visit to the state fair up here then a cruise off to another area, he and his friend spent a couple of weeks here and seemed to enjoy what limited ammenities the anti-KOA has to offer at this stage of development, the wifi seemed to work and the power kept the a/c unit from allowing the inside of his bus to reach baking temps in this heated but northern area. The restaurants in the area and other attractions were visited and given the thumbs up, the wild critters were all well behaved and didn't attack or surround the wagons for the most part except for a small brown kitty that loves anyone with opposeable thumbs and the ability to open a can of cat food for her. We even got a small pile of sawdust going and his bus acquired a roll out pantry in oak for canned items, the next step in this process will be a working washing machine to ease the need for a 25 mile trip to a laundry facility and the machines that not only remove the days sweat and grime but also all the quarters in your pockets. Each day the anti-KOA improves by a small amount and is somewhat better, the work continues at a slow crawl but if a person looks closely, forward motion can sometimes be detected. The 30 amp power held up nicely even with the regular use of the rooftop a/c unit, the unusual hot streak we had with temps into the high 80's and lower 90's was a good test for the outlet and it performed without a wimper and not a single reset of the breaker so it was a good test. The final test was canceled because the bug season is pretty much over so the mosquito blood bank is still at a low point and what remains of the little anemic critters is sad, to see them having to walk because they are too weak to fly tears at a persons heart, but all things concidered, it was a good visit and seemed to be enjoyed by all.

America is changing Cody,
there was a time when the skeeters were so big
that they would land at Kinchloe
be refueled & take off again
before anyone was the wiser, Bud.

Glad to see the big wind was South of you, searching for stick & staple targets instead of Busses.

The main part of the storm yesterday did go south of us but directly west of us at Ontonagan a tornado on the ground was confirmed, it touched down within the town and created urban removal and cleaned up blight of several sorts, carefully avoiding the new downtown district,, rumor has it that it was brought in by the new governor that is in the area visiting the state fair.

One more hurdle is overcome on the road to niceness,, we now have a working washer hooked up and soon to be churning out a load of clean clothes,, right now it's digesting a wash with bleach and pine sol to clean the lines and all points south and wet, then it'll have a run thru with clear water, then I will treat it to a load of clothes and see what happens.

The washer was a resounding success, it smoothly did a load of clothes with no complaints at all, the first load had a slight scent of pine sol but a rewash took that last remnant away and then the solar powered dryer came into play, I found that my dryer sheets simply don't work with the new solar dryer, I hung a dryer sheet on the clothes line and it made no difference at all, possibly the sheets are old and I may need new ones. While the washer is on the back porch and the electric dryer is still in the storage unit I will be tearing up the laundry room floor today and putting in a new floor and doing a little rewiring for the new stuff, I've also got a new 36 inch door and storm door to put in, the laundry room has a handicapper ramp to it's porch but there is a 32 inch door and storm door in place now which makes scooting thru the door in a chair a little tight,, the 36 inch door will make that much easier,, then a new ceiling and some new cabinets and on to the next project lol.

The project for today is the laundryroom floor, got to put down new underlayment and tile it, need to head into town in a while to get a pressure treated 2x8 for a new door sill to raise the door an inch and a half for clearance and bring out the new 36 inch door and storm door. Going to add another 30 amp rv outlet on that end of the house to have another location available at the same time along with a freezeproof faucet, still lots of fun to have but running out of season, last night was the first night for a fire in the stove, got down to 40F but it was a good test run for the new stove, it burned all night with no problems and a bed of coals this morning to get it going again, the stove kicked out good heat all night, I'm pleased with the stove but with a $2000 investment in the stove it should work not only great but should have the coffee ready in the morning too lol.

Lost my right hand person and general motivator today, jamie headed off to school again,, this winter she will be in the dorms cause of the 65 mile drive each way in the northern winter weather so I'm by myself now, she'll be home every second weekend for a couple of days, tonight I sat on the couch with her kitties and watched animal planet, was a good evening but they showed little interest in popcorn. This is her third year with about 5 to go, medical school is demanding and I've got 2 kids attending. Got an old truck camper coming in, an Alaskan, needing a new floor so it'll be a major reconstruction, the owner has already stripped out the interior but it needs more than a simple cover over, the floor structure is gone entirely, this may be a 2 coffee cup job. It should be arriving in a week or so, meanwhile preparations for winter are in full swing, the weather is turning fast,, last night it got down to 38F and tonight they claim 44F then it should warm up again by the end of the week but we are getting our warning that winter is coming.

Woke up this morning with no water, all indications are that the pump is shot and needs replacement, not an easy job concidering it's 200 feet down the well, a call to a well driller that has the proper equipment confirmed my thoughts that this is going to be very involved and the cost will begin at around a grand so it's a major setback but not insurmountable, next step is to make a few phone calls and see whats available as far as parts go. So for now the anti-KOA is dry lol.

It's a 2 wire pump so the control box is on the pump but I checked the pressure switch and even tryed a new one, I had a spare, the pump is a 3/4 HP 220 unit, the well is 280 ft deep with the pump setting at about the 200 ft mark, what I'm thinking is there is a hole in the line causeing the water to recirculate which burnt up the pump, it may have been doing that for a while and finally gave up the ghost. I'll have the pump pulled and probably replace not only the check valve but also the sand screen along with the pump, if it needs new pipe I'll do that at the same time, the pipe is inch and a half black plastic but the connectors are metal and thats what I think failed, by doing it this way it'll be all new and should be set for a long time, I'll probably replace the pressure tank at the same time, this way it should outlast me. Mainly I'll go with the recommendation of the well driller, I've known Froberg for a long time and trust him, he's got the set up to pull 200 ft of pipe quickly and easily so that in itself is a good thing.

When it rains it pours lol, a road trip in the truck today to get new batteries for my power chair, in walmart yesterday somehow the smoke got out of my rear battery ( yeah, I know, tempting lol) so now I've got to replace the batteries and that involves a run to marquette, about 90 miles each way and a pair of new batteries at roughly 170 each, rumor has it that medicare will pick up part tho so that all helps,, good excuse to look for a new well pump while I'm down there but I'm reluctant to buy the 300 dollar chinese made pumps when I can get a good mexican made commercial pump for 500. Medicare seems to have their own formula for determining what percentage they pay, the chair was $6495 and my co-pay was $2850 a few short years ago, the way they explained that was all the assossories we loaded it up with like a seat and tires that ran up the price with noncovered items. These batteries are 4 years old so they are probably out of warrenty but I hedged my bet a little and got a persperation from the doctor to get the batteries replaced, so we'll see what happens, right now the chair is immobile, libby claims she is teaching me to 'stay', if I get the hang of this she wants to teach me to fetch,, as long as she stays away from "roll over and play dead" I'm not too concerned.

Our "down hole" well pump died about 3 years ago. Pulled it ourselves (tie a rope to the black pipe & the back of the pickup, drive ahead slow while someone (or two) guides the pipe up the well. Stop when pump is about 4 feet down, rest of the way by hand. Got a new 2 wire pump at Lowes for about $320 and I think that was 1/2 hp @ 220V.

Putting it back down is really easy. You don't need the truck, just have to keep the pipe clean as you don't want mud & grass in the well.

You should see if you can bring back some water for this when you go for a pump.

Battery run was a success, turns out medicare replaces batteries in power chairs once every 2 years and takes care of 80% of the cost,, my supplimental picked up the balance so 2 free batteries came back with me and I was able to keep the old ones, those are going to power the dusk to dawn light with solar, so an all round good day, also got a side by side fridge brand new with all the goodies on the door, ice, icewater, crushed ice, the damm door does everything except make coffee, just got a crease in the door from where a forktruck grazed it but had a sticker of 1199 on it and I know an elderly lady that has a fridge that is broke down more than it runs, I got this one for 30 bucks and it's going her way, I've got to pick it up today, yesterday I was in the jeep so today the truck is heading to marquette. I looked at the pumps at menards and lowes and saw a lot of plastic on them for 300 so still looking. I don't think the crease in the door will matter to her, I've fixed her fridge twice over the years and I know other people that have fixed it too, now she can have a brand new one.

I work with pumps.
PLEASE!!!!! don't cheap out on the pump. DON'T use some department store junk it is not worth it!!!
Go with a good stainless steel pump (I recommend Grundfos)
For that depth 3/4 hp 13 stage and if you have 4 wires use a 3 wire pump with the motor start switch above ground. Way easier to change!
No galvanized fittings especially underground. Only good brass or stainless steel. and make sure the hose clamps are ALL stainless, some have metal screws.
I know it costs more but then so does doing it again

This has been an all round bad summer, not just for me but mostly for those around me for some reason, I figured I'd call paul and see what he figured about my well problems seeing as how he was the guy that put the well in, the message on his machine is that he isn't taking any jobs cause he's dead, that kinda messes up the program but he was a good guy and his word was good. http://www.mininggazette.com/page/content.detail/id/521632/Paul-A--Walitalo.html

Please do check the wires to the pump , my son pulled his 380ft deep well 3 times and replaced the pump only to find the wires carried Vlots fine but under load no amps so this time he hooked his welder (disconnected well pump) and checked V & Amps, then called me and his neighbor (well driller) for assistence. His 1/2hp was not enough at 380ft. for his geothermal syatem sooo in went a $900.00 2hp.
Also after the original wires were found bad he dug a new trench and ran new #6 copper stranded and new pipe, so when the little pump quit this time he made certain the wires were good, and we ckecked wire down well.

I'm not sure if the well has a 1/2HP or 3/4HP pump right now but I know it's a 2 wire set up, I feel that if I need to go to a 3/4 I can do that but I've got a great well with great recovery and this is the first sign of any kind of a problem in the 25 years or so it's been in so I'm thinking the problem was most likely brought on by a hole in the pipe and the unit recirculating and causeing the pump to burn out, I'll do the repair but I don't have a way to pull 200 ft of pipe myself so I'm dependant on the schedule of the well driller and his rigging.

Dan

About 20 years ago, I fortunately discovered that our well pump was cycling continually.
The cause, a pinhole in the pump nipple attachment.
It was replaced with brass and worked without problems untill now.

Joe.

Joe, thats what I'm expecting, a hole somewhere, for now the pump is shut down to prevent any further damage, I'm hoping to get it fixed, probably in november,, meanwhile I'll get by without it, just too much stuff going on in other areas, the doctors are going to see if maybe in october they might be able to rip out my heart, that is far more important right now and in the meantime I've still got 2 kids in medical school so life is getting in the way right now, but I'm well armed with information and am getting ready for winter, no way to slow that one down at all. I did find a dealer for Grundfos pumps tho and they look like the level of quality I'm looking for,, I would rather wait and get what I want than settle for something I'll wish I hadn't got.

I celebrated labor day by sitting on the pot getting ready for a colonocopy yesterday, it was my contribution to the labor movemnet you might say lol, being retired I felt I needed to make a statement of some sort, it was my first test of that nature and I assured the doctor that normally I wouldn't concider anything like that on the first date. All went well until I heard him say "oh oh", I knew that couldn't be good, normally I guess they put you out for the test, they chose not to in this case on the advice of my heart doctor and with the 'oh oh' all things ground to a halt while they added the magic alixer to the IV and I said 'good night gracie' for the remainder of the procedure. Later yesterday the doctor came in and told me the test went well but they had found some polups that they had removed and some unusual "tissue formations" that they are going to biopsy and now I have another appointment later today to get the results of the lab work, he did say that it would have been a good idea for me to come in a get the test done when I was 50 instead of waiting till I was turning 60, so now we wait and as you can see, it's been an uneasy night so far, this afternoon I'll find out that the doctor was right and most biopsy's turn out benign or I'll find out what the next step in this program is but in this part of the country summer is over and now we figure out how to occupy our time for the long winter ahead.

Good luck with that, Dan...

I've been on the short list for colonoscopy proceedures since I was 40 (17 years ago). I have colon cancer history in my family & they found pre cancerous polups at my first proceedure. Been on a 2 year cycle ever since. Fun, eh? Prep sucks, drugs are great. I do like watching the monitor after the initial bombing. I had my Doc print me a 4 pic "postcard" of my internals so I could send it to my insurance agent & show him what he could do with his policies.

Hope all goes well for you...

I too have been having the "up the hiney test" since 40 (19 years). My mom died of colon cancer. I delayed the first time cause I thought it would be embarrasing, etc. It's not, normally you are asleep and getting it done is much better than dying from a cancer that is 99% curable if found in time. My mom hated doctors & hospitals, wouldn't go for the test & died too young.

I've spent the day trying to figure out just what the test results showed, after I met with the doctor this afternoon he informed me that he had removed the polups and they were nothing to be concerned about, he also sent some tissue to the lab for testing and it came back, "unremarkable" he explained that as benign and not a problem but then he thru me a curve and asked how long I had been on my heart medications and I told him for a while, 3 or 4 years now, he asked if anyone had explained to me what the long term effects of some of the medications were and I said, "continuied life?" he said nope, "destroyed liver", apparently my liver is not living up to expectations and now is seriously damaged,, the blood work showed major problems, he asked if I have a family history of alcohol, none there, we don't drink,, if I had 2 drinks a year it was a lot for me, so now we're working on my liver, I sometimes think murphy is pissed at me, so now the anti-KOA is at a standstill and now I'm going to be fighting another battle, this one to save my liver, he said I picked the one organ that has shown ability to regenerate to a degree so now I'm hoping for the best in that regard, I meet with him in 2 weeks and he said he'll have a game plan in place for me, he also said I can't live by myself anymore or at least for a while so now I've got to find the phone number for the Swedish Bikini Team. I've always tryed to be a person that looked at the brighter side of life but this is really wearing thin.

Dan, it sounds like you are trying to screw up your "golden years". Or your Doc is. I have liver function blood tests every three months because of some of the med's I am on. So far, all is good. If I would trim 25 lbs off my fat ass, things might be even better. I'm working at it, and my wife is onboard as well, so there's not much chance of getting out of a weight loss program. Sure comes off harder these days.

Best of luck to you...

Jamo
