On getting deeper into the job of new the king pins,I found the Drum and shoes wet on the driver side. Seal leaking not enough to show from the outside yet, but all over the drum and shoes. Also the s-cams are in the wrong position the rollers are not even riding inside the s, but on top of the outside. Only one spring. What a mess, and I thought I had decent brakes.
Onwood tomorrow,
John

Hi John:
Leaking inner seals will in most cases not ever show up on the outside of the wheel.
That is why I constantly preach to my customers to have pit inspections done on a regular basis.

When I talk to converted coach folks, we offer a "Free" pit inspection. I encourage them to bring along some "Grubby" clothes so that they can come down into the pit and see what we see, thereby developing a comfort factor between us and the coach owner, be it an operator customer, or church, ministry, or converted coach owner.

With regard to your cams and rollers, the rollers do ride on the the outside of the "S", if they were on the inside, they would have cammed over and the brakes would lock up.

You may have lost a front wheel seal, but at the same time, the wiping surface on the spindle (which is replaceable) should be checked to see if it has a "groove" in it. Yes rubber will wear into a hardened wiper over time.

John, give me a call tomorrow, if you have any more questions!!

I Hope this HELPS!!
Happy & Safe Bussin' to All!!!
