We bought a nearly converted bus a few years ago, it has a table and chairs, which we do not really like, would prefer a dinette, however our kitchen counter sticks out into the proposed dinette area, so perhaps a 'different' shaped dinette would be possible 'J'? Does anyone know where plans of dinettes could be found. We also do a lot of rough camping, and find the living room carpet difficult to keep clean. Any ideas of flooring, which might be a little easier to look after? Thanks...Derek |

When we did our conversion we also did not want carpet as my wife is in a wheelchair which brings in too much sand etc. on the tires. We kept the existing linoleum which is hard to beat for durability. The same heavy weight material should be available thru a commercial flooring outlet (our apartment just put the same stuff on the floors of the elevators after quickly wearing out regular cushionfloor) It used to be called "battleship linoleum" and is about 1/4" thick. Another product we have been considering is the "clic" style floating flooring. Comes in a variety of styles and should be easy for the home handyman. One concern with that product is effect of freeze/thaw conditions but that depends upon where you run your bus ! Regards, Perry |

About the only plans for a dinette are what's in your imagination. The best place for ideas are at the rv places. Just walk around in a few with your camera or a paper and ruler to sketch something, and you will find something you like that you can build or a good carpenter can build for you. I did this many times while I converted my coach just to get ideas. The salesmen kind of left me alone because they new I wasn't buying anything. David Anderson |

I am going to use a hardword floor in the bus except for the bath room. I going to use a floor that is built like plywood in layer where the top layer the stained layer. I am going with because it will more stable with temp changes compared to "real" wood flooring. And it is better the saw dust type "wood" flooring. |

i had the vary same set-up as you described: "kitchen counter sticks out into the proposed dinette area" So I made new kitchen counter and designed & built a dinett. the one thing that i did diff was build the dinett of steel, so i could install lap/shoulder belts, hi-backs for head support that also recline and of course makes into a bed. i have sense made a much improved new design (the old aint too bad). if intrested e-mail me for more info. joe |

I put nail-down maple thru-out and now I thick linoleum or one of those wood look-a-likes is a better idea. If you do go with wood, apply poly to the underside as well to seal; wish I had. |

To Joe: I am planning to use solid 3/4" Mapel hardwood floors. What are some of the down sides you discovered? Where did your moisture problems come from? Spills, leaks, humidity? Also, did you have to sand the floor after it was installed before finishing it? Did you have any problems with buckling? Nelson Thomas, Knoxville TN. |

I've got about 30 pics of a Dinnette that I used to have before Peter the Madbirt took possession of it for his truck camper. It is a standard dinnette, but might give you some design ideas. Lemme know if you want 'em and I'll e-mail to you. For a nice durable floor, check out the woven vinyl products used in Yachts. There is a guy named Scott (not me) selling it and George & Sue Myers have some samples, I think. Scott |

We installed Nafco vinyl flooring which comes in either squares or in plank form. The squares look like real ceramic and the planks look like real wood! Very easy to install and maintain. It was installed in our Eagle BEFORE we converted it and it held up excellent during the conversion and we had many compliments from it especially when it was installed on a 45 degree angle from the usuall horizontal straight line with the bus! It's not the cheapest but it sure is worth the expense! Any leading floor retailer that handles NAFCO products will vouch for what I'm saying! Ace |

Nelson Thomas, I installed pefinished Bruce solid 3/4" Mapel hardwood, 3 years ago. The finish holds up real good, supper hard. But if I were to install solid wood agian (which I wont) I would apply poly on the back side before installing & on the sides if it would still go together. I have had buckling, first in the bath due to shower stall leaking, next in the kitchen due to spills, & the latest must be due to humidity I guess after sitting for a super cold 4 weeks and then 1 week of warm. |
