Several years back there was a place down there you could swim with wild Dolphins but I don't know if it's still there or not. I think is was in Key Largo but I'm not sure. |

on stock island next to key west there is a nice campground right on the water forget the name but I stayed there 7 years ago for a month. and on key west there is jabors camp ground close to everything in key west so you can walk every where. should not be too expensive this time of year or too crowded. stop in at fort myers beach on the way and say hi. you can stay at red coconut right on the gulf. |

Boyd's Campground is as close to Key West as you want to be with a bus, just one bridge away from Key West. The one in Key West is just too tight for a full size RV. High season ends April 1 so the rates are lower, but still high. KOA on Fiesta Key is about $70 per night. Fuel is not cheap either so do as Two Dogs says. Weather should be summery but moderated by the gulf water, not too hot, not too cold. Enjoy Jim |

We spent a month at Florida Keys RV Resort in Key Largo (MM106). Found it while checking for other vacancies at the tourist info booth across the street. Seems a popular spot to stay while waiting for vacancies to open up farther south. Large shaded sites at good price (under $40, full hook-up) It's not on the water but handy to lots of things...including the dolphin swims. Enjoy ! Perry |

You might be able to get into the state parks now . There price is right, and at Long key all the spots are on the water . At Bahia Honda there about 12 spots on the water Good Luck------- Bill -4104 4032 |

When I had a trailer / camper... I've stayed at Jabour's which is right next to Jimmy Buffett's "Shrimp Boat Sound" sound studio. It is across the street from the Key Lime Pie Company. When I bought my RTS, I was told by the owner of Jabour's they cannot take anything over 35 feet. I saw where there was maybe 2 - 3 spots that could take a 40 footer but I am not the owner. Shame, it is only three streets over from Duval Street and Mallory Square. Boyd's is on Stock Island. Five miles out from Duval Street. They are more an RV park. They have a pool, camping is tight there too, but doable. Probably a little more secure than Jabour's too. I have also stayed at Florida RV park at MM106 in Key Largo. Pool is OK there. Excellent price but not much atmosphere. Can pull through many of the spots. Even though you cannot use your Dish TV, they did have cable TV hook ups for no extra charge. Owners were nice there the two times I stopped there. I checked out http://bluewaterkey.com/ website. Looks like a nice park. I guess there is no place down there in the Keys that is inexpensive other than MM106. Never stayed at the State Parks. Well it is really any type of direct sight contact satellite TV. They have HEAVY tree coverage. Sorry, I didn't mean to pick on Dish TV. |

Yeah two dogs, it's a whole 99 miles from the mainland bridge to the concrete pillar in Key West, that declares it's the Southernmost point in the U.S. When you get to I-75, why not run 30 miles north to Georgia Exit 2, to the Flying J and buy diesel at $.30 to $.35 a gal cheaper than in South Florida. It's currently $1.97 to $2.08 from Ft. Myers and down into the Keys. A 150 gal. fillup pays for your next oil change!!! Stop in N. Ft. Myers too! Call me @ 239-656-5188 if you stop near here. Cheers...JJ |

A couple of years ago when I was last in Florida, Fuel was $0.10 - $0.20 more a gallon once you crossed into Florida. Coming down I-95, we'd stop at mile post 1 in South Georgia and fuel up. That would get us to Key Largo with only 40 gallons of gasoline towing a camper. As you go further down the Keys, Fuel climbs another $0.20 a gallon from Key Largo to Key West. Mile markers in the Keys identify where you are, but so does the gas station down the way. Seven Mile Bridge is impressive if you have never seen aqua-green water before. 1(800)FLA-Keys you can get information on what to see & do along the way. There are many website to help you too. Enjoy it in the Little Latitudes. If it is your first time down there, Jimmy Buffett's song "First Look" is a good song to play across the bridge. Warning. From Homestead to Key Largo, it is a two lane highway with an occasional passing lane. People drive like nuts to get through there. Since you can see nothing but scrub brush, Mango trees and salt grass, it is almost a tunnel vision experience. Be alert. Do not want to be an accident. They happen there all the time. It calms down at MM 106, the beginning of Key Largo. Jeff "Take Another Road" <-- Jimmy Buffett Member 4:10 Club Rustless not Busless in Buckroe 1988 TMC RTS-06 6V92-TA DDEC IV/V731 da Bubba |

If anyone happens to be retired military there is a great MWR RV camping facility in Key West -- the main campground (which is usually on a waiting list most times of the year) is about $14 a night, and their overflow camping space (Dry camping only with dump and water nearby) is $9 a night) and within walking or certainly bicycling distance from downtown. Was down there just this past Feb. e-mail me if anyone wants more information. |
