I'm ready to put the new .032 aluminum over my existing skins on my 4905. any reason not to use white self tappers rather than rivets?

i'm not sure what 'white self tappers" are. White painted self tapping sheet mtl screws i would guess. rivets are really the best way to go imho. the screws will rust over time and will react with the alum skin.

I would not use pop rivets-they will leak. I used aluminum shave-head rivets that have a small rubber washer to seal the hole.

capt. ron....what have you done to the irregular surface 'under' this .032 alum. sounds like this is going to have more puckers than an old maids kiss...

I screwed an 1/8" thick by 1" aluminum bar the length of the area I am covering 4' down from the edge of the roof line. I then attached 1/8" foam between that area cuting it 4" short of the roof line so I can taper the aluminum into that area and but it into the roof sheeting. .032 is only .008 thinner than .042 which is not much more than a human hair and cost $10 a sheet less.
I tried a sample piece and it looks great. very smooth.

another question is how to seal the aluminum at the top and how far apart to rivet or screw along the top. I bought a case of latex caulk with silicone in it. it is a paintable caulk.
