Hello again all.. Last year I picked up a couple of Neoplans with the grand idea to convert at least one of them and start taking roadtrips like I always wanted.. Unfortunately, the job market here in Seattle is on the weaker side, and believe me that I'm in a position to know! So, I've already sold the Metroliner, my parts bus, and now I'm going to have to try to sell the Cityliner again. I had a couple of good, interested buyers, but niether even came to look at the bus (so I guess there wasn't THAT much interest). My question is.. where can I sell a bus? I've repeatedly tried to get a listing here on BNO, but despite paying the fee and sending the pictures, I've got no listing. (A note to the site admins: Yes, I've sent lots of emails. If you see this, feel free to put my ad up and delete this thread. That's all I really want, is advertising) So what other avenues are there to explore? I'm getting to the point now where I need to sell the bus to pay for the roof over our heads, and I'm willing to deal if someone will come pick it up NOW, but no one buys a bus on an impulse (except me, apparently). http://www.greykit.net/bus/forsale |

It's been about a month and a half for me. As for the vinyl, it's low-tac temporary stuff. Part of the deal when I got it was I had to obscure the livery, which is painted on. No big deal to pull off again. Keeping it on is the hard part. I'm going to check out NW Bus Sales tomorrow (a big bus lot down in Federal Way, WA), and see if maybe they do consignment. Need more exposure! |

Hey Bob! Glad you got home. A friend of mine who lives down near the yard called me the day you guys left. Apparently he had been poking around after you went to the hotel, and found the door unlocked. Then the next day, it was gone! It was fun, him trying to let me know -easily- that one of the busses had been stolen. |

"Our ad rates are the lowest on the Internet. We are able to keep our advertising rates at this rock bottom price because, for the most part, you do all the work for us - we simply take what you give us and place it online. Therefore, the fee that we charge does not include additional technical support, including responses to e-mail, telephone support, etc. Payment doesn't mean you'll see your ad immediately. Your ad will appear the next time we update our site. We will notify you by e-mail when we have uploaded your ad. Technical support for your ad, beyond the general terms stated on this page, is available for an additional fee." There is a presumption in the business world that potential customers have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of a contract before entering into said contract. The above captioned quote is from the "Place a Classified Ad" page. Mr. Romanek, we confirm your payment and are still awaiting your ad copy. Since that doesn't ever appear to be forthcoming, we hereby confirm that we have refunded your $50. Mr. Setzer, we confirm your payment and ad copy. We will be placing your ad online tonight. That decision, by the way, has nothing to do with this particular email thread - it's strictly coincidental. Our usual turnaround time for an ad is approximately 2 to 3 weeks. To whit, our latest sponsor, Heartland Coach, is also awaiting an ad to be placed online. Although his commercial ad was produced and uploaded in about a week, his personal ad will be done this evening as well. 2 other ads will also appear this evening. Our rates are the lowest on the Internet, due, in part, to the fact that we are able to keep production costs so low. I have considered selling ads for $300. like other web sites and have also considered selling for a percentage of the sale price, but have opted, instead to keep the price point at rock bottom. I stand behind our sales performance. We have sold 131 buses off this web site and there is a testimonial page from actual customers with legitimate quotes from real emails. I don't pretend to be fast or claim to be the best. The usual caveats apply to taking out an ad here, just like anywhere else. But please remember that BNO is the most well read web site in our little hobby. Your ad will get more exposure here than anywhere else, bar none. For $500. it may be well worth taking out an ad on this web site, but for $50. just exactly how can you go wrong? To all clients, past, present and future: Thank you very much for entrusting BNO to represent your bus sale on our pages. It is an honor to be thought of as responsible, appropriate and trustworthy enough to host your advertising. We feel ourselves to be very grateful for your participation on our web site and thank you for making BNO what it is. There is no one more cognizant of the fact that without this constant show of support, along with this particular source of income, we would fail to exist. I think about that every day - every day - and never take it for granted. I have stated that several times in several different threads. Although Mr. Romanek's intent may appear to want to embarrass me into action on his behalf and even goes so far as to challenge me to place his ad online and to remove this thread, this is just to let him know that he has failed. On the contrary, I welcome the opportunity to publicly thank BNO viewers for their kind and continued support of this web site. Warmest best wishes. Ian Giffin www.busnut.com |

Well, actually, I DID send you the copy. Twice. Including the picture attachment. I even sent THREE follow up emails asking when it would happen. The second ad was sent on 4/13/04, and the last email was sent on 5/12/04, so you might want to check your inbox or something. And I never, not once, recieved an email back. I figured you might respond to a post on the forum, though. A simple 'please try this alternate address' would have done nicely. Bob can attest that I'm pretty easy to get ahold of, if you try. As for the challenge thing, I think you read it wrong, or didn't think it through. I'd RATHER have had the ad up last month. I PAID for the ad. Twice, if you'll recall. I WANT the ad. That was the whole point of trying to get ahold of you. Why would I demand an ad and then refuse to send copy? I don't understand why you'd refuse business and post something like THAT rather than just try to get ahold of me and fix it. But hey, it's your website, your rules, your decisions. Just don't expect me tell any more people about what a good place BNO is to list. |

All I can say is wow... I appreciate the fact that you offer a forum. I appreciate the fact you desire money. From a business standpoint I could care less how "cheap" you are. NO exposure means no sales. It takes less then 5 minutes to upload your files, for the money seems that a little courtesy toward those who pay you might be in order. It is "your company" and you are entitled to ruin as you see fit, you convinced me. Hopefully others will see the light also. I had considered using your services for a couple of buses that I had acquired and really didn't know your rates. Thanks for letting me know. I guess service is not something you desire to provide. Thank you for saving me money. |

Actually, I misrembered.. I just went through my saved email again. You DID send an email back about two days after I placed the ad, so you DID get my copy, and my picture, because you knew about the Metroliner (which I sold to Bob, which was mentioned on the website) and asked if it was supposed to be a separate ad. I removed all mention of it from the website because of that. Apologies accepted. |

Ian, make that 132 sold, though i found mine here on the boards, not on an ad. Matt had come here and asked "what is this bus worth?" then he mentioned it had a wheelchair lift and the rest is history. Now my Metroliner is at So Oregon Diesel getting all sorted out. Thanks for the website Ian!!! Bob |

My wife and I have had a web site for antiques and collectibles since 1994. Although we provide a free "forum" page and a free "classified ads" page that our visitors can post to directly, it's a ton of work to keep an eye on everything, much less have to answer email regarding the functioning of the boards. But... That's why I kept it totally free. I do not want the headaches I see Ian is having. And, although we allow pictures to be included in the ads, the pictures are not uploaded to -our- website, they are reproduced via the url the poster supplies. It should be known, that web space and band width are chargeable commodities; web site owners and operators pay for that. A high hit rate can cost the operator more money; every time a picture is viewed, it adds to the bandwidth. The measly $50 dollars Ian charges to run an ad for an infinite amount of time, also allows you to upload -all- your graphics to -his- server. And, his web site gives your ad better coverage than any other medium, since it attracts and caters to all those interested in converting a bus. Where else can you get that kind of exposure and service? An ad here is not only worth the money for the advertising alone, it provides Ian with some incentive to continue this service. |

Regardless of the work involved he is a service business...Prior to retirement I ran webservers and computer manufacture hosting tons of sites. Mostly large companies. The work is miniscule if you know what you are doing if not then it is like working on a bus. I assume that IAN knows what he is doing since he is charging for his services or lack there of. Lack of service means this is a useless business. |

What I see in this thread, is a customer just wanting what he paid for. No attempts to embarrass or provoke, just the ad he paid for, nothing more nothing less. And his concern is echoed by another. In all, I would say both these concerns have been put forth in a most polite way. However, the result is nothing more than a rant on behalf of the vendor. Perhaps even a rant tempered with arrogance. A public statement that it takes two to three weeks to get your ad online appears to be suspect, if not a bit lengthy. He could have posted all these ads and more in the time it took him to post this rant. Regardless of the price charged for the ad, there is, as Ian would point out, a contract. One would expect his ad to appear in a reasonable amount of time. Oh yeah, and thanks for the message board. |

Important Notes - Please make your cheque or money order payable to Prestige Online Services. If you wish, you can make your payment directly online in The BNO Store. - We recommend that you send pictures in a protective envelope. - Please indicate on the Application Form if you would like your pictures returned to you. - If you use regular mail, its destination is in Canada. Using Canadian postage will save you money. - In addition to regular mail, we accept all major couriers' packages, prepaid, at the address shown above. - Your ad will appear as soon as your cheque clears the bank Our usual turnaround time for an ad is approximately 2 to 3 weeks. To whit, our latest sponsor, Heartland Coach, is also awaiting an ad to be placed online. Although his commercial ad was produced and uploaded in about a week, his personal ad will be done this evening as well. 2 other ads will also appear this evening. Now both of these are from IAN which is true?? When the payment clears or 2-3 weeks?? |

Guys chill out. This BBS is a wonderful resource for all of us. If Ian wants to take a month to post an ad or 2 days or a year that is up to him. If he gets p-d off and decides it isn't worth the cost or bother of running the board then we all lose. The ad is for a BUS for gawd's sake - it could take a year or years to sell - one month more or less isn't going to make a whit of difference. |

John: How inspiring! However, completely missing the point. I run a website with forums too, and I know exactly how much bandwidth costs and how much work admins have to go through. However, nobody's complaining that it should be free or anything like that. I just wanted a response as to why my ad, which I paid for over a month ago, hasn't been posted. That's it. I've read and re-read my own message, and I still don't see anything to warrant the response I got. I thought posting on the forum about it would get someone in contact with me. All it got me was most of my money back and STILL no ad. Auntmelody: AOV, previously owned by Fun Tours. Bobb: Yes, THANK YOU, that's was my point exactly. And when the day is done, I STILL don't have an ad online, which is all I wanted anyway. I did get my money back (see below), but I'd rather have an ad. bsreg: Oh good, I'm not the only one who saw that. FWIW, I paid via paypal. It was refunded via a paypal transaction (ie, not a payment refund. I got charged for that too, but I'm not going to quibble over $2.25.). And the point of this whole thing was, of course, I just couldn't get ahold of anyone through email to ask. |

My message wasn't directed to you personally, Matt. It was directed to the spirit of discontent that it generated. The attitude formed by others, that Ian is performing some sort of an obligated "public service", is out of line. Ian is under no obligation to anyone to continue running this web site. I doubt he makes his living from "bus for sale" ads. It's none of my business how anyone decides to complain to the webmaster, but it raises my curiosity why anyone who feels a complaint should be heard, just doesn't simply call Ian's phone number. It is listed; A simple "whois" would have provided it. I would hope that any complaints our own clients might have, come to my attention directly. I would prefer not reading them on our own forum that we provide to all, for free. Aside from that.... How's it going? |

John the Newbie: Would you have responded to multiple emails before it got to that? I wasn't even trying to get a complaint heard. I just wanted a response. You're right that Ian is under no obligation to run this site, but I think that an email isn't too much of a burden to a paying customer who wants to know that his money didn't just get tossed down a black hole, never to be seen again. As for the whois records, I'm not going to call someone who, as you say, probably doesn't make his living from this. Email should suffice for an internet based service, I should think. John Rigby: You're not kidding. Still no ad, though, and this thread will soon be buried into obscurity. |

I know if I was considering advertising at different sites and saw the above treatment of a customer, I would seriously consider alternatives. I would think this would have been better handled privately instead of blowing up publically and making themselves look like a fool and cast serious doubts as to their honesty. Well bsreg, I guess you have never made statements that seem to contradict during your business career. After rereading Ian's statements, I think a reasonably intellegent person would conclude that Ian MEANS that after your check clears, your ad will appear the next time the site is updated. Probably he should reword the Terms section to say just that to provide clarity for amateur lawyers and the intellectually challenged. I have been reading Ian's site for about 5-6 years now. I find this board to be the best in terms of content, ease of use and helpfulness of fellow readers. Other boards either have VERY few postings AND/OR have 75% of the screen taken up by header bars, ads & popups. I no longer visit the other sites hosted by such as YaHoo due to that so those sites are essentially worthless. If Ian didn't get a little income from bus ads, he would no doubt have to sell site subscriptions. I believe this has been discussed before & he rejected it because of the limiting effect it would have on the group who come here. Ian, maybe you should offer two kinds of advertising service: "Posted next business day" (after check clears) for $500. and "when I get a chance" for $50. I'll take the $50.00 style, please. |

My hope was that maybe IAN would come out and do something to save the business I was planning on providing him. Apparently he could care less. Oh well.. Now for the praisers... LETS ALL BOW DOWN AND PRAISE THE INET GOD IAN.... |

Hey bsreg, looks like you just don't get it. Why do you think lots & lots of folks from all over many of whom have never met Ian be coming to his defense? Maybe 'cause he generally does a great job? He sure didn't buy our loyalty. Don't understand why you feel the need to keep lighting up the same old fire again. Maybe it would be better if you DID take whatever business you have away to some other board. If Ian gives you heartburn, why are you still reading & commenting here? Are you THAT lonely? |

I am sorry Jim-boob if you count the numbers it appears maybe you are a touch incorrect. The concensus reflects approx. even vote on how folks feel that the customers were being handled. It is great that you will defend someone that you hold as a idol. Dont worry about my business ventures I shall take it any place else |

Bsreg, Here's the deal: Post the ad copy for your "couple of buses" for sale right here in this thread. Send me photos of the buses via email. Give me a realistic time limit for when you would like these ads posted. Please don't say ASAP, because my ASAP is way different than your ASAP. Give me a date and time. I'll post your ads for free. No questions asked; no further obligation; no further comments. To sweeten the deal, I'll ask Matt Romanek to do the same. Matt, put your ad copy right here on this thread. I'll go to your web site and "capture" some pictures of your Neoplan. Again, I'll post your ad for free and I'll put it online at the same time as I put Bsreg's online. Again, no questions asked; no further obligation; no further comments. Deal? Ian www.busnut.com |

Well let me chime in! I have personally used this site to sell my bus in what some people call record time... (6 weeks) and from that I have had 2 of my closest bus nut friends list their busses for sale here! I listed my bus on Ebay and all I got were tire kickers and the like! As soon as I listed it here, it went! As for I@n? What can I say? We have butted heads occasionally on stupid childish things but we used each other to mend the bruises from it! Was he right or was he wrong in THIS case? What difference does it really make? He's just like YOU and me. He's Human! So with that said, get over it, list your bus, pay the price or SHADUP! Happy Converting Ace |

And hopefully unpleasant folks will find us all so horribly boring and unreactionary that they will leave for greener and less mature pastures. back to buses yet? happy coaching! buswarrior |

Having missed seeing this thread till now, and carefully reading it through, I am struck by the uproar it has caused and the hostility in some of your pronoucements, Bsreq. The only offender I saw in the entire thread (as well as the only person that appears to be ranting) is you, Bsreq, and for the record, I neither care, nor am I concerned with who you think you are. Bsreq, if you actually do have buses; do business with Ian, you'll begin feeling better immediately. I believe Ian has offered a very fine way for you to sell your buses, benefit your fellow man and regain your composure all at the same time. (smile) If people here regard Ian with a large measure of awe and respect, it is because he has EARNED it, repeatedly... and then some. As for myself, I like Ian just fine, true he has been provoked on occasion... he has also shown himself to be quite capable of admiting mistakes. Plus he provides invaluable services to us bus nuts that some, including myself, would not wish to do without. While there does appear to have been some miscommunication regarding Matt's ad copy after his original was sent... Matt and others have pronouced his behavior as squeaky clean... I have no quarrel with Matt, but since the original ad copy Matt sent Ian was for two buses and he paid for only one ad, it could be said that there is the appearance that Matt had been trying to pull a fast one... Additionally, Matt seems to have NOT read the wording of the contract where it is stated that there is no technical support(that includes e-mails) for his ad. Further, we all know (or should know), that Ian excludes ads for buses on the board, still Matt did not merely complain about his ad on the board (which would have gotten him a response) he blatantly posted a link to his 'bus for sale'. Ian, the class act that he is, has allowed Matt's bus link to stay...giving Matt tons of exposure. The advertising value Matt is getting on this thread is staggering, and the fact that Ian is allowing it at his own expense is amazing to me. That Ian now is offering both Matt and Bsreq ads for free...(not to mention giving to Bsreq's favorite charity) speaks volumes about Ian's character. Ian, thank you for this great Bus Nut resource. For all the benificial and helpful services you provide. All the tedious and never-ending work you do on our behalf. And, thank you for the grace in which you handle situations like this, we can all learn from your example. ...THANK YOU! Brian |

BrianMC: 1) Actually, the copy was for ONE bus. The website had a link at the bottom that said. "The other bus is sold. Click here for the old page". 2) I don't think 'When's can I expect an update' counts for technical support. 3) Yes, I did post a link. For that very reason. Please re-read my original post. Everyone else: I appreciate this little flamewar that has erupted, and I'm glad everyone can get they warm fuzzies out of it, but I don't like being made into a martyr or an example. Unless you were directly involved in my business with Ian, please don't speculate as to what did or did not happen. Ian: Thank you for the offer for the free ad. I would prefer to refund the refund you sent me, though. The only thing I would ask is that YOU give me a timeline as to when it's going to be posted. An email would be fine. Copy: 1985 Neoplan Cityliner AN116/3 - Detroit Diesel 6V92, 6 Speed Auto, Webasto heat & rear AC, fully seated. Passenger entertainment systems, bathroom, water boiler & hotdog cooker. Lots of space on the cargo deck, great up-front view. $16,000 or best offer, willing to deal for immediate pickup. Located in Puyallup, WA. Matt, Your ad is online. Follow the links from our home page and let me know if there are any changes you would like to see - I'll do those right away. I "captured" several representative pix off your web site and clicking on the thumbnail of your bus will take you to the portfolio of pictures. (To everyone else: For the record, Mr. Romanek has sent me $50. to replace the refund I gave him on his original ad.) Thank you Matt. Best of luck in the sale of your Cityliner. Ian www.busnut.com |
