Basic Geometry - what is the formula?

I'm out in the coach nowhere near a hi-speed net connection or I would research this. I also don't have my handy book with me that shows all things like this. I also should remember this from highschool, but alas data like this fade away.

I have a handy-dandy angle measurement device that tells me the number of degrees a surface is from level. Does anyone know off the top of head what formula is used to determine the linear measurement per unit that surface would need to be leveled (rotated) to get a little more accurate than this device will give me?

Didn't explain this question well, but ya know whut I mean?

For ex., 2.5 degrees over four feet = how many inches the low end needs to be raised?

TIA!

law of sines...

sin(90) / 4 = sin(t) / y

reduces to:

y = 4 sin(t)

where:
y is the vertical amount to raise
t is the angle of offset
4 is the horizontal distance

This is not completely accurate as raising the end will rotate it around the center point, but it will get you close on short horizontal lengths.

BTW, the result is in feet....

so 2.5 degrees over 4 feet = .174 feet, or 2.09 inches.
