I just hooked up my trailer to my 4905. the pigtail does not have seperate wire for brake lights. and my trailer does not have 3 individual lights for tail, brake and signal as my bus does. I tried just hooking the wire from the brake lights into the same one as the signals but just got a hazard light effect although very slow. also I found 1 extra wire in the existing trailer wiring but when putting a volt meter to it I got 24 volts. can I reduce this to 12 and do I need to buy an extra set of lights for my brake lights. please respond asap as I need to be on the road as early as I can be on wed june 2 |

I only hooked up the brake and stop lites on my coach. I don't drive at nite so dont need running lites.Replace your 12 volt lites with 24 volt ones and it should work ok |

Ron, Here's a simple circuit you can build with four standard automotive-style relays (24-volt, of course) that will give you 12-volt lights from a 24-volt coach, and also consolidate the separate turn/brake lights into a combined turn/brake system: http://odyssey.smugmug.com/photos/4750590-O.gif Take the 12 volts from the center of your battery bank if you don't already have a converter. Give me a shout if you have any questions. -Sean |

Easiest and quickest is to make up a trailer lighting board with 24volt bulbs and seperate flasher lights and wire it to suit the bus. You can use 2 standard tail/brake lamp units each side and use one for turn signals and the other for brake lights and have all four working for tail-lights. Plug it into a connector at the back of the bus and then bolt, tie or whatever, it to the back of the trailer when you're towing it behind the bus. Peter. |

This works , but with one caviat. The 24V bulbs have the "bright" (stop or turn) element indexed where 12V bulbs have the "dim " (running) element. Only a few seconds to switch the wires , but it saves some head scratching. We have found the "magnetic" lights to be a real time saver , as we only tow a Toad infrequently , but seem to always have a boat or other trailer behind. Works for ME, FAST FRED |
