http://www.trucknews.com/news/dtna-rebrands-powertrain-portfolio-detroit-diesel-becomes-de troit/1000629524/?ref=rss# Daimler is dropping "Diesel" from the engine name. It'll just be "Detroit" moving forward, so it seems... happy coaching! buswarrior |

It'll just be "Detroit" moving forward, so it seems... Great , the city of Detroit is slowly shrinking and being bulldozed , so at least the name will live on. FF |

..1965: GM Diesel becomes Detroit Diesel Engine Division... ..1988: Penske Corporation buys a portion of the company. Together with GM, they spin Detroit Diesel Corporation off as a separate company. source--> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel |

Daimler used the name to quietly introduce their engines into this country, and as they gained a foothold, eliminate the rest. Unfortunately, it happens all the time. Caterpillar owns EMD now and will do the same. Cheaper to buy a recognized name than develop a reputation from scratch. |

"Cheaper to buy a recognized name than develop a reputation from scratch." Actually the "Man Made Global Warming" hoax causes vast sums to be spent in an attempt to take plant food,,, CO2 out of engine exhausts . While it is great fun to realize a new 18 wheeler driving on the NJ Turnpike is exhausting cleaner air than is entering the intake , the cost is the death of engine companies , and engine variation, worldwide.
