Hello all, in a previous post a person said that he didn't want to contamiate his fuel by taping into the main tank. How is that possible??? If it leaked some oil would it be enough harm mixed in 140 gals? if there were metal contaminates would they not be stopped by the filters??? I want to tap into my main tanks but now I am confused, so helpful opinions would be nice, thanks folks as always. |

Go for it , i did and never had a problem, rigged the tube up off the bottom of the tank so when the fuel got low the gen set would stop first and also to keep the dirt out of the pick up, ive seen many of them done this way Frank Allen TX 4106 |

I agree with Frank, so long as you are giving yourself an adequate reserve like he mentioned, you should be fine with the fuel tap for the gen on the main tank... Many opt for tapping into the main tank that way. I'm not sure exactly what contamination there could be. Brian |

There's no logical reason for any kind of contamination to occur from running several engines from the same fuel tank. Some folks don't want to reduce their MPG by using the fuel to run the genset. And some folks set their genset up with a separate tank so they can run non-road-tax (red) diesel. If you DO set up to run red fuel, I would keep the systems completely separate so you won't have any possibility of returning red fuel to the main tank. If you set up a pickup & return in the main tank, do not tee into the main engine pickup (supply) line. O.K. to tee the return into other returns or into the tank vent though. |

Did you mean that hookup Jim-Bob? I hooked into the engine pickup with a T fitting, and it has worked just fine for years. It seemed to me that if I hooked into the return line, I would just suck air when the main engine was not running, or does the return go to the bottom of the tank? (My genset did not use a return line) |
