I absolutely marvel at the efficiency of the system here. Virtually all very new equipment, and none of it comes from NorthAmerica . The equipment here is supplied by the following Volvo Primarily and another host of suppliers from europe. Alldouble deckers carrying about 130 passengers when fully loaded. All tag axle, withsome having the tag ahead of the drive axle. This morning the wife and I went on a bus ride. Not having the right amount of change (didnot have any local coins yet) I dropped 20 local dollars into the box, less than 3 canuckies, and went to the top and sat on the first seat. A beautifull panoramic view of the city for the next 2.5 hours. Cheapest most enjoyable ride we have had for a long time. In addition they also have a very complete subway system and not expensive to ride on either. I think it is because of this that you donot see a large amount of cars scooters and bicycles clogging the streets. The traffic moves very well compared to what we experienced in China. Tour busses here are also typically shorter with shorter wheelbases as well to give better manoeverability. Took a picture near our hotel of a beautifull MAN bus . Lots of taxis here as well, most are Toyota special taxi model that I have not seen before and running on LPG. Bruce if you are reading this, I now have a better appreciation for a double decker. Joe, my "first seat" upstairs will be an 8x12 living room up front with a forward facing sofa with seat belts, a coffee table and "captain's chairs" down one side. I'm gonna be looking for someone else to drive so I can sit up there! |
