My problem is I lose heat from my front heater at highway speed. When I slow to city speed, there is lots of heat. I have checked hot water lines and they all seem to be clear and connected properly for the proper flow. The main connection on the engine is just after the thermostat beside the main radiator hose. Any thoughts to what my problem(s) might be? |

DO you have the DC water pump that is designed to push water to the front running? FF |

Jim It sounds like you have to much airflow at highway speeds. The hot water line leading to the heater Should come from the eng. Not on the discharge side of the thermostat. |

Jim After the coolant goes through your heater where does it go???? If it goes to the eng. block Then you may have the heater hoses reversed??? LOL Sandy |

Maybe there is lots of heat, but it is being stolen by the under dash controls allowing the hurricane of wind to bypass it, making it feel cold upstairs? Can you or a helper access the heater core to shoot it with the IR gun while underway? I really hate getting my hands dirty before I need to, and doubly so, to wrench on the wrong thing! If it is a coolant/thermostat/hose problem, often the report is the opposite, cold at city speeds and hot when the engine is really working. Poke around a bit more. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Yes the DC Pump is installed and pumping and outside air flow is an indirect flow. There are no under dash controls. Of course all hoses come from and return to the engine. There are lines that are part of the system...the genset and a small radiator at the front. Yesterday I ran the genset until I could feel the direction of the heat and all is OK, and there was heat to the heater. I am thinking the takeoff spot for the heater is in the wrong place and the speed of the coolant causes the hot water to 'bypass' the takeoff spot. There is another takeoff spot that comes directly off the 'out side' of the water pump. That connection is where I believe the heater should be connected, so I will switch locations and see what happens...a lot of work!!....I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT THIS IS THE THERMOSTAT BYPASS, so water is flowing at all times...hopefully this outlet weill be better. I tried to upload a picture, but having a hard time resizing it to 50kb. (Message edited by daffycanuck on October 27, 2011) |

you did bleed the heater core? A little trapped air can cause this. |

Take the covers off the front heater and AC system and see if there are any large holes in the floor. Also holes around the steering shaft and pedals can let a huge amount of cold air in. |

Ok, today I moved the heater 'in hose' to the bypass side of the water pump. We now have more heat. As Sandy mentioned I was on the wrong side of the thermostat. I still have a problem with the system sucking air...on to that problem. Thanks for all the input.....we're off to the US for the winter on Tuesday...we WILL be warmer. The new engine pulls a lot harder than the old!! Have a good winter everyone. |

Jim Just a thought If you will put the return line from your heater to the discharge of the thermostat side ( where the intake was connected) you will get a better water flow... |
