Today I siphoned the fuel from our 05 eagle. I used the engine pick-up line to an underground tank. I wanted to be verify the usable fuel.

When I refilled, the tanks only held 112 gallons.

Anyone have information about the baffles in the tanks? The specs are 130 gallons of fuel. Is the 18 gallon discrepancy just unusable fuel, or is there something else I'm not accounting for. I recall a previous post about a baffle rubbing a hole in the pick-up tube. Could this be an issue?

Thanks in advance

The more important thing is to empty the 18 gal of unusable fuel , as thats where the gunk, bugs , old broken fuel (looks like tar chunks)and water will collect.

Some brand of bug killers drop the bug bodies to the bottom of the tank , some emulsify so there burned in the fuel.

Empty the tank DRY, you may have fewer hassles down the road.

Diesel tanks have a 10% expansion area that can't be filled due to the filler cap location. So what you actually had left inside the tank was 5 gallons. Spread over the width of the tank, that isn't much depth of fuel. Fast Fred is right, if there is a drain plug, pull it and get all the gunk out.

Even better still take and hook up the engine to a 5 gal tank and then put water and simplegreen in the empty tank, then go for a ride and make lots of corners so it will slosh all the gunk real good. Then drain out the tank when you have the drain on the low side (even if you have to ride the other side up on blocks. Then you can flush out the tank with more water till it comes out clear and clean. At least this worked for me hehehe
