Do just called...he had an injector breake off & it bounced around & took out all four valves in that cyl. they are going back together tomorrow,this time ,with headbolts instead of studs... |

Dounan said the reason he was going back with the bolts was to allow him to put the head back with the water manifold and exuaghst manifolds already bolted to the head. As the bolts will allow extra room, instead of having to lift the head over the studs. Been there done that.I have studs... John |

Studs are a PIA, but if you use head bolts you need to get a couple of the old studs, cut them so they are only 3-4" tall, and cut slots in them so you can use them as guide studs and still be able to unscrew them and fish them out with a magnet. |

Not being familiar with the heads on the 4104, but one must take into account that the torque settings for the bolts could well be different than for nuts on studs. This is because the stud often has a fine thread for the nut whereas the bolt is screwing into the course thread in the block. Also, the twist of the long bolt against the leverage on just the nut can have a strong bearing upon how tight they should be tightened. Peter. |
