I just got cutoff twice by a trucker with the trailer labeled FirstFreight. the guy changes lanes when my grille was even with his tailights, he did the same thing at the next intersection. When we got to a passing lane I went aroud him, when I merged he dropped a gear and still tried to cut me off.

when it didn't work out for him (My Durango will out-accellerate a freightliner) he laid on his horn for about two miles, when I turned off.

We drive cross-country as routinely, I don't have as many miles as an over the road driver, but I have more than most amateurs. This is the most dangerous driver I've ever seen.

Anybody know were I can find firstfreight and file a complaint? Their Domain is expired.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary,

A lookup of United Airlines Cargo Division and Delta Airlines Domestic Shipping shows they both use First Freight as their flight specific carrier.

Don't know if this is the First Freight you're looking for, but perhaps worth a couple of phone calls to find out.

For the most part, trucking and truckers have my utmost respect. I give them enough road to stretch their legs and have been treated fairly almost always. Even had a few help me stay awake during that "16th hour".

But there are exceptions that, unfortunately, tend to give the industry an undeserved bad name, at times.

I'm with you and 2D on this one... nail him.

Regards,

Ian

Gary what you need is where you were -- the time of day--the lic.# off the trailer or the truck and the name of the door of the truck as to company and trailer. now as you have been advised make his life the as bad as you like. any company that gets a complaint like this will grind him small...

that's what he needs...I drove bigtrucks for years...some people got upset 'cause I couldn't get my 70 foot truck around the corner fast enough...but stuff like that..is stupid...file a formal complaint with the highway patrol...and IAN...it's TWO DOGS ...not 2d... :)

the trailer # was 4363, however we didn't get the number on the (Tennesee) plates.

when I was behind the guy I though he was a little careless, it wasn't until I was in front of him that I realized he was a nut.

Trucking is an honorable profession to me, I used to operate a local service truck, doing repairs, frequently frame repairs for those guys when they were borke.

Now that we travel cross-country pretty frequently, we basically live at the trucktops. Virtually all truckers are very focused on courtesy and safety. It's only practical for them to be that way.

there are a pair of intersections on Eight Mile in Northville, MI (Same as the movie) where locals know--you don't get in the inside lane, cause all the local traffic turns left and has to wait for oncoming traffic to pass. the very next intersection, is the same, only the opposite, the roadblocks are turning right.

Since we're "Locals", more or less, I was already in right lane, at the last minute, he realized he was going to get stuck there, he hit his signal at the same time as he swung the wheel. There's no way he took the time to look, he just swung over. If I had been a foot farther ahead, he would have clipped me, or had I not slammed on the brakes for that matter. I didn't think that much of it, everyone makes mistakes.

After passing the intersection, I made a move to grab the inside lane, just as I got even with his bumper (Again) he did the same thing. I swung right and grabbed some throttle and shot past him, as I cleared his front (Lanes were merging) he grabbed the next lower gear and tried to cut me off. Since the lanes were merging, and he is a freightliner with a 53' box, that means I would have to leave the road. Of course I took the available car length in front of him, and yeah, he was doing all this with about 5 cars in front of him.

then he grabbed the horn and held it for about two miles, his air alarm had to be screaming.

The guy is a nut and should not be able to drive anything with a GVW greater than the recently mentioned "Unicicyle with a flat tire"

Thanks Ian, I can at least call United/Delta and tell them they are subbing to very unsafe carriers. (I wonder if my 65K frequent flyer miles carry any weight :) )

I'll call the Secretary of State here in MI (because that is what they call the DMV (?)) and try to persue the matter.

Thanks guys,

Gary

When you are trying to identify a trucking company by name only it is very difficult, as there are many trucking companies that use the same, if not similar names or abbreviations of them. I have found that the best way to identify them is by their USDOT or MC/MX numbers that should be clearly displayed in a prominent position on the sides of the tractor.

Using trailer license numbers are of no help in identification of the home base of the trucking company, because most major companies register their trailers in states that do not have a high registration fee, thus you will see a lot of them with Tennessee, Maine and Oregon plates, although using the trailer License number and trailer number, along with the tractor make color and unit number along with the USDOT or MC/MX number, will almost certainly narrow the identification of the driver in question.

Go to this web site, then look to the left margin under "Public Business Services" and pick out the type of identification that you want and run the search.

I ran the search for Fast Freight using Carrier Snapshot and Name, then came up with an almost overwhelming number of variations of that name, check out;

Yeah, like I said, We didn't realize the guy was psychotic until after we were in front, and we didn't even get the plate then.

As for the Trailer thing, I just moved from Alameda, CA one of the nexxus points in the universe for container-freight, almost every container-frame has OR plates, virtually none of the leave the bay area.

Now I see them in Detroit--which really cracks me up, they don't have gross weight restrictions here, only "Per Axle" so you see all the trucks with a zillion wheels under them. So--the trailers cant even GO into the state they are licensed in.

How can that be legal?

Being right on the 93 and I-40, we come across the odd idiot trucker who tries to enter one of the truck stops by turning across the oncoming traffic making them scatter to avoid contact.

I have come across a couple of total morons who should have their licenses revoked. In these situations, my method is to simply call 911 and get put through to the Highway Patrol or whomever is in control of that piece of highway and report all the details whilst the truck is actually in front of me.

I have only had to do this twice in 10 years, and the authorities are very happy to receive the info this way, as they can get exactly what they want.

Peter.
