Ok, so I'm moving the '04 and it's on a tad bit of a hill. I almost stalled it and just as the engine came to a stop, I stabbed the clutch and it started running again. I thought I'd killed it, but nope, it was running again. I sat there for a second to collect my thoughts and recheck my mirrors. When I looked back at the drivers side, I noticed a strange dark, brownish grey exhaust coming from the rear of the bus. I touch the foot feed just a bit to clear it out and it got much worse! I then realized that it was actually coming from the air intakes. So I flicked the kill switch off and sat there for a few, giggling to myself like a silly school boy. I have heard of it happening before, but this was a first for me! Maybe this is a joy only for those of us with 4 speeds to look forwards to? Rick |

You won't get that kind of mileage with 4 reverse gears and a forward second gear solenoid switch. Of course, your mileage may vary... |

Just a thought but maybe you've stumbled onto a way to blow out the air filters instead of replacing them Of course that would be a mess if I did that with my Oil Bath filters.... . |

interesting. theoretically you would think it impossible. blower would be turning the wrong way and so would the fuel pump. |

The old Greyhound driver's manuals state that drivers should park with the transmission in reverse on downhills, and park in first with the bus headed uphill. With the handbrake on of course. There have been cases of old buses taking off on their own believe it or not. |

I thought for sure there was going to be an oily mess from the oil baths, but there wasn't. My oldest son was down visiting and had the misfortune of standing behind the bus at the time this took place and was as surprised as I was to see the exhaust reverse directions! He wasn't impressed with the smell though. He got a pretty good snoot full The airfilters might be a tad bit darker too ;) |

As a side note I hooked a horn up rev polarity once, pushed button and it sucked. 06 Bill |

I've done that a couple of times while pulling our '04 up on ramps. Scares the crap out of you the first time. No oil pressure and smoke out the intakes. Exciting! |

06 Bill, Thanks for the laughs! Thanks for the heads up Jim, I'll have to make the wife video it when I try to use my ramps I'm sure it'll be good for some excitement! I bet it blows oil bubbles in the crankcase too... (Message edited by Rc38 on November 17, 2011) |

oil pump running backwards means no oil going to the bearings. Don't allow it to happen or run for more than a second or two. |

Believe it or not, I've had that happen with my Caterpillar 3406B a couple of times. Just turn off and restart. Good Luck, TomC |
