I'm installing R&M Fiberglass rear doors and understnd that I can either rivet them on or glue on. I'd rather glue, but am not sure what is the best glue to use. Of course I'm taking the Stainless off first. What do you guys suggest. In other words, whats's the best for the price? Thanks in advance for all suggestions! |

What does R&M recommend for adhesive? Until recently I would have gone with Two Dogs recommendation of the PL brand. However, I have seen a couple of failures of the stuff in areas that were subject to medium to high vibration. This was with metal to metal. It does set much harder than Sika. Your doors are subject to a good deal of vibration. I suspect that R&M would recommend Sikaflex, probably 252. They should know; there was an MCI-8 at BusNUSA with a complete R&M body skin, all bonded with adhesive. If u were doing an area that allowed for hiding perimeter rivets, I would also recommend that as Two Dogs does. |

Home Depot's got the adhesive made for Fiberglas. They sell the sheets of that material as well. I've used it in the bathroom of an old RV that was peeling layers of wood and partially covered with old glue. If hot steamy showers and all the vibration from a stick 'n staple RV didn't shake it, it will probably work anyplace. |

Just returned from Bus-N-USA rally. This topic was covered by Rich at R & M. (800)350-1656. Sikaflex 252 seems to be the choice of the pros. for an adhesive. For the side skins, he recommends rivets around the outside edges only. Interior of the panel use butyl caulking. The Sikaflex will hold with no proglems. Will look better than rivets. Your choice, Wayne |
