Back in November of 2002, Charlene asked a similar question on this board. It was very interesting to read the answers that followed. I would like to re-ask that question now and see how much we have changed in mean age range, goals, successes, failures, etc. Have At It! |

My average age? It all depends on the circumstance. Sitting behind the engine compartment: I'm like a 3 year old Boasting about what I plan to do with the bus: a 12 year old Using all the energy I have planning what I'd like to do: a 25 year old Dreaming what it's going to be like when it's finished: a 35 year old Worrying if it's going to ever be paid for: a 45 year old Wondering if I'll ever get to use it in my lifetime: 65 How I feel at the end of the day: 90 It's difficult to give an average. I guess it depends if it's raining or not..... (and if I can find my vicegrips) |

OOps! I forgot to put my own age. I was 49 in February and hope to make it to 50 this coming February. My lovely bride was born on New Years Day at the half Century mark.... See hon, I didn't tell how old you are! hehehe! I too am like John, in that I'm different ages at different times. But usually at the end of the day, I'm running at a conservative 80 even though I start out the day at a wild 6. (Good thing I haven't gotten to the 'terrible two's' yet. Then Granny would have to deal with the grandson and me)! Keep on busin', safely! Dallas |

Just turned 62 and Bobbie is five years younger. She was a child bride of 19 when we married and I think that's 39 years. I retired on disability this year and move slower than I used to, but fast enough to duck when she's annoyed. We have worked side by side all our lives and hope to drive away this year to full time in a reasonably converted bus called Puff. Michael |

I'm 55 I think and wife Kelly is about 44 I think. Bought the bus to pull the race car (29 Ford Dwarf car with 4 wheel independant suspension). Kept wrecking the race car, found I was having more fun with the bus ('48 Flx. Clipper) so I decided to work on the bus instead. That was back in '97. My goal now is to finish the bus before it becomes one of those unfinished dreams that comes up for sale "due to death of husband". Saw a birthday card the other day that asked the question, " How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?" For my part, I think about 13. |

Started with a '53 4104 Entertainer Coach, then a '70 GMC 4905, and now have a "Personal" '70 totally self contained MC-7, with 95% of R&M's upgrades. I'm a gadget freak so have a lot of "neat" stuff including underbody purple neon under coach perimeter all the way around. |

Retired at the age of 48 with the golden handshake from Pacific Bell. Bought a chicken ranch in Arkieland, bought another ranch and got rid of the chicken ranch Then went into goats, had over 400, got rid of the goats, Slick Willy did away with the payments, and then went into the doggies, sold all the dogs, bought stick motor home to have fun in and wife talked to a lady who did crafts, 5 years later, and to many craft shows to count, had shingles attack from middle of back to middle of front on right side, Dr said I was wore out hehehe she worked me to hard hehehe. Put me in hospital and almost died, but made it back, but lost everything including all the credit card bills (hehehe). Was going crazy so bought MCI-8 bus last year and have spent up till now working on it from the bottom to the bays fixing all the wrong things with it. Hope to get the roof raise started next month and will replace all the mono with channel, work when I feel like it and nap when I don't. Will be 65 in Nov, wife is 66 (she robbed the cradle hehehe) and her sister who lives with us is 47. GO BUSNUTS |

I am 54, my wife is older than me by 8 months, yes another cradle robbing woman....... LOL. She sells Real Estate in Golden Valley, AZ. and I am retired from being a mechanic and truck driver. Hobbies are the "Conversion" and restoring old cars. Bought an MCI-8 a some years ago and stripped it and did some mechanical work on it, then bought an enclosed trailer for my hobby cars. That took the rig over 70ft and so we sold the bus unfinished. Bought a Class 8 Freightliner FLD 120 with a 24ft box body already installed and have been converting that ever since. We LOWERED the roof by 15 inches and have the windows framed. Also, most of the under floor bays are built including the generator slide. Insulation is nearly all in and so are the tanks. At the moment work has come to a stop as I have this '55 Chevy ex-Gasser drag car to finish as it is one of the "Golden 50" previous winners invited to appear at this years NHRA Indy Nationals 50th Anniversary over the Labor Day Weekend. We were hoping to have had the Freightliner done enough to use, but it was not to be. A good friend has offered his Winniebago as it more comfortable and probably a lot more economical than my old Apollo for the long journey (about a 3,600 mile round trip). Peter. |

I currently have a class c "sticks and staples" but spend much of my time drooling over buses on the highway and in magazines. I am planning on purchasing an MCI-9 in the next few months and have somehow succeded in convincing my wife that this is a great idea. I find it very interisting, how much we have in common 'besides' BUSES....I also have been building old cars for years,'40 Packard w/455 Buick,'49 plymoth w/289..Austin Healy with a 301..5 corvettes, two airplanes,3 wives,20 live-in girlfriends,LAST relationship was with a cute little blonde in CA. ,wonderful girl, when she was sober, obnoxious when she wasn't,have had the Eagle for a year now,had a stick&staple for 10 years first...did not like the way they were put together.anybody ever notice the Detroit smells different than a 4 cycle, along with sounding different..I can remember when Iwas a kid, told my Dad I liked the way the exhaust smelled on a bus...he told me I wasn't supposed to be smelling that.. well...he's long dead, still like the aroma ..yep..crazy ol' guy ...huh ? |

well the two numbers are a 6 and a 9 and my wife of 47 years changes them around as she see fit--- i am 6 when asked to go shopping because i kick and scream--- 9 when i start for the shop in the morning--- and it goes all the way to 96 and that is when she asks me to do some gardening, and the good part is in a few days the numbers will change to a 0 and a 7 now i have her as she can only say at the worst that i am 7 but the DL says i am 69 to day |

Tonight, I feel 99 after having spent the day trying to bust the lug nuts on two wheels. 2 men, combined weight of 380# on the end of a 10' persuader (pipe) and still couldn't bust them all. These things laughed at a 1" IR @150# of air. Damn young, corn-fed kids that work in these tire shops! Maybe by sometime next week I'll go back to being 60. |

This is their senior year (homeschooled) and then I get to run away from home!!!!:D David is taking too long with the Eagle (that's one to do right) so I want to do a fast skoolie conversion (want Bluebird All American diesel) and sell our vintage pop-up. I am 58. Many times I can not remember my age, it stopped being important many years ago. The wonderful old body has been letting me down a little the last few years, but as long as I can move it is a great day. Have had a 4104 for the last 10 years. I am also a pilot. Have played with antique, classic, steam, hot rod cars and Steam locomotives. Other hobbies include machine work, foundry, pattern making, jet skiing, water skiing, motorcycles and Koi fish. My bus started as a replacement for a stick and staples for me to use in some of the above hobbies. Reciently a friend said if I would get rid of the bus hobby I would have more time for the locomotives. He is right, the bus has turned into a hobby more then I had originally planned. It sure is fun to work on and drive. I almost hate to arrive at my destination the driving is over!!!!!!!!!!! Central,CA 4104-765 |

60 and trying to hold on. Gave up on the daily rush to work back in 91. Brought my own big rig and stayed out on the road untill I was injured about three years ago. I then purchased a 89 Eagle 20 to convert when they first came on market. Started hard but a lot of medical got in the way. Trying hard to get back to the bus so that I can actually enjoy it. |

Pat has a nice craft business and we started our RV business earlier this year in hopes it would support our expensive hobbies. The Eagle would have been on the road this summer, but the 6V92 decided to spit up. Now installing a Series 60 and Eaton 10 speed Autoshift. Big project, so don’t know when we will be on the road. Laurie and I are 47 homeschooling 8 kids (2 down 6 to go) in northern Vermont. Our youngest is 4 and already have grandkids happening. Our '66 mc5a encountered a major impediment to our path returning from our "Big Trip" to see the west this spring. No one was seriously hurt in either vehicle. I've been unsuccessful looking for a replacement conversion. Now I'm leaning toward finding a donor bus for parts and repairing our totaled coach. Tim. |

Well, it looks like I am one of the older guys on the block. I am 73 and Janet (Miss Lazy) is 67. The good Lord willing, we will celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary next July. We have been RV’ing for about 50 years, starting with a Datsun pickup and a pop up tent trailer. Several stick and staple units and our first bus was a 4104 in the late 70’s and then our Eagle 10 in the early 90’s. Both were somewhat converted when purchased, but I did a lot of finish work on both. Lost my Eagle in an electrical fire last year that caused a great deal of smoke damage but no problem with the mechanical systems. Catskinner in Texas bought it from the insurance company and drove it back to Texas from WV, where he plans to restore it. I have been involved in car restoration for many years and restored several Model A’s, a Model T, a 35 Ford Sedan and a 36 Ford Pickup. I have built several high performance sand rails that my family and I used to run in the sand dunes at Glamis, CA. I retired and returned home to WV a couple of years ago, but could not stand the inactivity, so I opened an equipment and tool rental store here a few months ago with my daughter and her family. A couple of months ago my only competitor in the area decided to sell, so I bought her out and now have two stores to manage. Do not really know if I will ever retire now. Richard |

I'm 27, single (and lovin' it), working on my first bus (an '81 International/Blue Bird schoolie), and currently petting my cat, Bobbie (a bobcat/tabby mix). I'm currently working as a cook but will be going to something better soon. I've been a bus nut since '90, when I found a '61 International school bus in the woods, in MS. The plates were from Flordia from 1977 (my birth year). The numbers "243" were barely visible but still there. I still think about that old bus, even though it was too rusted to save. I believe it was that bus that got me into busin'. My schoolie, when finished, will have the number "243", in honor of that bus. The last time I saw 243, it was about to be towed away. Well, that's my story of how I became a bus nut. C U Later. Good bye from the 243-B |

But he passed the itch on to me. My first bus was an 88 American General city bus. Got a good start on it and had an offer for it I could not pass up!So I sold it. My new bus Is an 82 Eagle 10.
