Still looking for Aux heat to help cold starting on my T4. Looking around online so far basic consensus on the smaller Webasto is that there are internal maintenance parts that are so expensive that you get close to full replacement costs quickly. Seems the Espar units have less expensive parts.... Lots of Proheat X45 around. This is a bigger unit for my van, but it will end up on my bus in the long run (more for cabin heat than warming engine). Anyone know if maintenance bits are reasonable on the Proheat. Money is tight these days, I do not want to buy a used unit and get drilled for replacement parts, and there is no way I can drop $1.5K to 2K on a new unit. Used is always a gamble, I'm used to that, just trying to weigh the odds. Any and all input appreciated. Especially real world experience re convenience/maintenance/etc... |

I was gifted a brand new diesel powered 24V hydronic heater not long ago. It appears to be US military surplus...very simple setup (constant heat output, no fancy computer controls). I also own a 60kW US military generator that would have used this as a pre-heat/cold weather kit to keep it hot and ready for battle. I will be installing one in my coach for house heat and emergency engine heating, you might google/ebay around a little and see if this suits your needs. Let me know if you need more info. I think there are manuals around, and I have a PDF copy 'somewhere'. Merry/cherry, |

Patrick I dont have any direct experience myself, but I have gotten to know a fellow recently that spent years working for the company that is the Webasto and Proheat dealer in Calgary. If you want, I can try and have you hook up with him. |

Pat..not sure what you have read so don't know exactly how to respond, except to say we are not sorry with the Webasto. Yes, thru a learning curve it took a bit to get things just right.....and am still doing it. However, when one considers a 40 foot coach (320 Sq. Ft.), heating engine, domestic water plus a number of heat exchangers, it takes a pretty decent heater to accomplish...PLUS a pretty good education on how it should be done...hit and miss not excluded. Our is a DBW 2010 (45,000 BTU). We paid less than $1M for ours and probably have another $250-300 in it over the years...total, including a control board repair, a couple of fuses (now have replaced them with a self resetting fuse ($50+-)and a big pump/hoses. I purchased all from Ronthebusnut(.com)and would do it again. We still have a way to go to make things ""just right". I have a pancake, amidships engine and have a bit of air that seems to get into the system (I've posted re that on another thread...still have not gotten the answer I'm looking for) but I'm confident we'll work that out soon. Wish you the best and if you have any questions re Webasto, don't hesitate to contact me....or maybe better yet Sure Marine (very helpful). Lots of Webasto information on installation and repair, manuals included on the Web...all downloadable. NO...I don't have any interest in them...., as it were! Merry Christmas RCB |

"Still looking for Aux heat to help cold starting on my T4." A block heater is about $80 if a "T4" is an engine. FF |
