I have a '53 4104 (076) with rear escape door but no steps. I have looked at a lot of '04s but never seen a step. Is this something someone has added? Jim Stacy |

Pat, Are you talkin' 'bout the passenger door (in the front) or escape door (in the back)? Ole Bubba |

That would have been one heck of a special order. Never seen nor heard of one. |

"with a factory door w/steps on passenger side" Mine did and every 4104 I have ever seen has a passenger door with steps on the passenger side. How else would you get in the bus? Richard |

Maybe he means "Front passenger door (one piece) with steps plus emergency door in rear on driver's side". If so, they all had that. Come on, Pat. Explain yourself! |

Give him a break, guys. In the title he wrote "4104 rear factory door". In the text it says it is a passenger side door with steps. Seems like it may have been used as a transit bus with front and rear doors. I've never heard of one, but I am more familiar with MCI & Prevost. Hopefully he can get a photo of it on here and we can all find out just what he has. Jim |

Well to put the story to rest a bit........ there were several 4104's that had a center, curb side exit door. I do not believe any of them came from Pontiac that way, but were retrofitted at a conversion company like Custom Coach. That Center door was one of their trademarks along with the porthole windows. I have seen on in Santa Barbara that was set up this way and had a cadilac of the same vintage mated onto the top....top of the doors to the roof. Budwiser had an 04 with a center curb side door as well |

from pat tierney, boy never thought i would sart such a mess.i will again try to explain,i have a 1953 g.m.4104 with the usual passenger front entry door w/steps.to the rear of this door and just in front of the rear wheels i have another entry door with three steps going up into the bus.to the best of my obsarvations i cannot observe where this was added to the bus other than at the factory.it has a push in locking device on the door and the key that unlocks it has g.m. marked on it. cant wait to see what this added message generates.pat |

I still stick with the aftermarket Custom Coach Scenerio........Custom Coach around the same time was also building their own coaches and was more than capable to install something that looked factory. |
