Seven gallons for my 8v71. Buy some extra for the road... and fill up the oil filter if it's the spin-on canister-type. Mine held almost a gallon by itself, I think. Make sure that the Delo 400 is SF-2 rated, because the new stuff is not. I made that mistake before, too, on my last oil change in my last bus (LONG story). Delo 100 is usually special order, but certain grades of 40wt. Rotella T, Citgo, etc. meet SF-2. I believe you can order SF-2 40wt. from NAPA and have it in a few days. And, yes, the tranny oil is the same spec. as your engine. Don't forget the tranny oil filter, too. Inspect it for metal while you're at it. FBB |

D-oh! I don't know my C's from my S's and there I go givin' advise. And I had to say it incorrectly like four or five times to boot. Sheesh. Rookies... What eagle said, Bob. CF-2 is what you want. You'll search long and hard and never find SF-2. FBB |

Bob, wrong oil, you need a CF-2 oil for the older 2-stroke Detroits. In addition, you need to look for 1% or less ash content. It might be a little hard to find but your motor will thank you for it. John F. |

Bob - Deacon's right, you've got the wrong oil. Take it back to where you purchased it and get a refund. Here are links to several oil distributor locators, where you can find someone in your area to order the correct oil from: Chevron Delo 100: http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/nafl/wheretobuy.shtm Shell Rotella T: http://www.shell-lubricants.com/distributors.php Exxon/Mobile XD-3 Monogrades: http://www.prod.exxonmobil.com/channelpartners/ns_distributor_directory.jsp Citgo Citgard Transit Low Ash Engine Oil: http://www.citgo.com/CITGOLocator.jsp Spend a few minutes on these sites looking for a local distribtor/dealer. I noticed there are several in NC, but I'm not sure which are closer to you. Be sure to order at least two cases, you'll use seven gallons just for the oil change, and they come six gallons/case. Bob, here's a couple of links that might be worth reading. http://api-ep.api.org/filelibrary/ACF28.pdf http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/pdf/RotellaTSG.pdf I've used the Delo 100 SAE-40 and also the Shell Rotella T SAE-40. Both will do, so it'll be a personal preference. Also keep in mind that Texaco makes a good oil too. I run the Rotella T now because I can get it locally. Glenn |
