Hi folks, we just got in from Arcadia where I have to say, it was a seamless trannsition from Jack and Paula to Bill and Brenda, a wonderful rally! A bunch of fine folks, when I asked what their bus board 'moniker' was said, "Oh, I am just a lurker!" Now ya'll are very smart folks that have a lot to add to this and the MAK board. Please sign on and let us know who you are. Jack |

Yep we have a bunch of lurkers on the MCIbustalk board also and if they would come out of the bus closet and add to the conversations think what great questions and answers might come out. Plus the parts they might have to share,LOL Just sayin Chromie |

For the CCO/GLCC gangs, Harold found me, he is well, and was on his in-between year for visiting Arcadia. Competing social opportunities that many of us endure. He'll see us all down the road someplace, and wishes Happy New Year. happy coaching! buswarrior |

The reason a lot of people do not participate in the forum, the other board in particular, is because they are chastised and made fun of for their questions or answers by the IN crowd. It seems to a outsider that if you are not a part of THE group you're opinion means nothing. The ones that profess the most Religion are the worst. |

I really feel the only dumb question is one not ask.Definitely try not to talk down to any one or make fun of them. Have missed your input. I have made a mistake or two but really try to take the high road. Bob |

Not sure what "Religion" has to do with it, but sad to hear that you feel an "outsider"..therefore, apparently not ...welcome. ALL of us were in that position at some time in the past. I, for one, never felt that I meant "nothing" on this or any other board. True, I have wondered where some of the chaff comes from...and why. Chastisement, as you point out, is unacceptable in any forum. Questions and answers that address the question have nothing to do with an "IN crowd". Facetiousness and pander are, unfortunately sometimes in the mix, but certainly not welcome by most. From my point of view, this board is (has) changed from years past; that said, I have always believed that, indeed, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Make of it what one will, it is, in the end what one wants to make of it, right? If one has questions, ASK....if one has answers, speak up! This forum has been the brightest spot in my years in the hobby. And, it is FREE! Thanx, Ian. Sorry you feel "offended". And, Bob....the high road is the best road! God Bless! RCB |

I post infrequently. If I were sitting around a campfire with you all, I'd speak infrequently. Some like to talk, some don't. I like what George Washington wrote as a desired trait - - Speak Not Expect to improve yourself or others, avoid trifling conversation. Also, and I forget where it came from, But, - - While conversation improves the understanding, silence is the school of genius. Ed USN Ret. |

Terry Sorry you feel that way. This board has been a wealth of information for many bus nuts. It might get out of hand on occasion but a lot of the posters on here are long time bus people with so much knowledge to share. Just overlook the odd comment made and don't take it personal. Hope you will join in here. Bill |

Terry, The best way to deal with the "know-it-alls" is to ignore them, works every time. I'm forever amazed at the posters who get their skivvies in a knot because someone doesn't follow their advice. They seem to forget that these postings are advice and not laws!! This is a great board and long may it live. |

Hi Terry, I'm concerned that what you had to say was only your second message to this board. I hope you have been a "lurker" before this, though I don't pigeon-hole people in that respect. And I also hope to see you send as many mesages to this forum as you are comfortable with. I welcome your input at any time. If I disagree with you, it's only because I've been doing this for 14 years and you have been doing it for 2 messages. Message boards are cyclical, not absolute. People who used to participate on this bulletin board may not be in the hobby anymore, they may have lost interest in messaging, they may have become involved in some other activity which takes them away from the forum (like myself), they may have sold their bus and no longer have an interest in the hobby, they may have been faced with other obligations which have taken them away from the computer and internet in order to become a full-time caregiver for example, and some have died. To say "a lot" is over-estimating. This web site, at the height of its activity, got about 15 million hits a year and now it only gets about 12 million. The site has had a viewership fairly consistent at about 2,000 people a month for the last dozen years or so. These numbers suggest the hobby has remained fairly stable. Yes, some have left because of WHAT is written, and some will say they left and took 9 or 10 people with them. But this hobby is 3,000 people strong. 10 may go, but 10 register every couple of days, too. So please feel free to participate at any level you are comfortable with for as long as you wish. Thick skin is kinda necessary every now and then, but if you ask a question, you're likely going to get a kindly reply from a multitude of people. If someone says something you don't like or is not part of the conversation, please just ignore it. It's a public forum, so not everyone is going to agree with everyone else. Welcome aboard! Terry, There is a clique in every group, I've left some non-bus clubs after a short while because of this. There are always a few, but, again, just ignore them and pick up on all the other good stuff. I could never have kept my bus on the road without these boards. The good thing about a BB is you don't have to read their posts, a few are in this category to me but there are a lot more good guys. |

"The good thing about a BB is you don't have to read their posts"... I think I'll save this quote for later this winter when the "usual suspects" annually & anally complain about my seasonal increase in participation... you know, the ones with the guns to their head & FORCED to read my perspectives . Terry, you just have to remember this... all of the rotten apples in any basket are easy to spot & avoid they are the ones emitting the most gas & the ones who are unable to control their their continual rot. As for "Cliques" they are usually comprised of people too afraid to be alone & independent, that's why they herd together, for support. Ian's advice about having a thick skin is good, especially if you live where he does & don't have a warm coat ! (I assume it's based on experience?) Welcome to the board.Give it a shot, you hopefully won't be disappointed. Just don't post on a full moon. You should be good now for about 3 weeks. |
