Seen today at Sears: a 375-watt modified sine-wave inverter with integrated cooling fan. I don't recall the brand (sorry), but it was on sale for $39.99 and rated for, IIRC, a momentary load of 500 watts. Power draw with nothing connected was less than 0.4 amps.

Small, I know, but for someone with minimal 120V needs, forty bucks is pretty good.

I have a friend who likes to remind me: "Buy cheap, Buy often." I would pretty much bet that they are all made by Xantrex at their Chinese facility.

Johnny, I don't know what you are going to use for a battery bank. However, if it has any size to it, and your conversion isn't finished, you might think about inverter-chargers. At least, go to eBay and study some of the specs on them.

The main thing is that the larger inverters do not use more power unless you use it to do something. Also, they sure knock the charging problems in the head.

If you're set up so you won't want to use AC for most things, the small inverter could serve you well. However, with the least expensive, if there is a fault in the load, you will get very little protection from shock.

The other thing that may surpise you is just how quickly you can gobble up battery capacity even with a low powered unit. Good battery life will depend on self discipline.

For what it's worth.

Mine will be an all-12V conversion...this was just a heads-up.
