I'd like to install some kind of intercom between the Driver's area and the restroom and the rear bedroom. I'm interested to hear how some of you have done yours and where to purchase the equipment. Thanks, Dean |

A lot of coaches have "aiphone" units. Pretty nice and easy to install on conversions underway. http://www.aiphone.com/Product_Pages/Current_Products/at-406.htm |

Last one I saw was a phone like unit and sold by West Marine. HOWEVER, I just looked at thier catalog and it wasn't there. (2Dogs SINGS on his! Kinda like the guy "TOOTing" and leading the rats away from town. If 2Dogs was tooting, I'd LEAVE town.) How about Radio shack? They sold a couple different types including a wired unit, which is probably what would be needed in a bus. was small and compact if they still have them. There are also some sold that use the 120vac wiring to work but your inverter would have to be up all the time. Usually find the latter in those mags sent to the house. hmm what about Walmart? Hope this helps cd |

Lots of folks chose the kiddy stuff that is called "family radio" or somthing similar.Radio Shack or K mart. Works with 2 or more handsets , and is great for backing with helper into tight spot. Inside the coach we simply restored the STOP cord and bell system . If "she who must be obeyed" requires slow down, 3 rings , a full emergency stop cont. short ringing works. FAST FRED |

You can just install a multi-phone phone system, if you get a dial-tone/cellular convertor, you can have conventional telephones in yoru coach as well as intercoms. Gary |

Ok Gary I recall some years back, well, a few years, uh, ok, a long, long time ago, my grand father (ok the rock ages) had brought home a couple of the old fashioned phones, no not the pre Bell Telephone style, before that, the upright, with the bell on top to speek into and you held the ear peice, which was on a cord, to your ear. When you were done, you hung up the phone by placeing the ear peice (looked like a bell) on the hook on the side of the phone. Yeah, after the wooden box that hung on the wall, but not too far after. anyway, Grampa connected ( I Think ) 3 volts by battery and had two phones connected and they were used like an intercom. So Gary, do you know how these were connected, is the battery in series with the phones? Even if you had to add a pushbutton for a ringer and use batteries, this would be a pretty cheap way to go. I saw some small (barely larger than the handset) phones that both sat on a desk or hung on a wall that would fit anywhere. Hmmm, how about connecting the battery with the modular and when you are at a campground, you can pull the battery modular and plug in the camp ground phone system. Does that make sense? Anyone have an idea how this can be connected? Inquiring minds...... "thinking cheaper than buying a full blown intercom system" cd |

Many of the Superstores and computer stores sell these phone systems. They comprise of a base phone with as many as 8 satellite phones. They all have charging stands which keep the unit charged. This means that at some point you will need 120v for them to plug into an outlet, but they do not need any other wiring and they will all act like walky-talkies between each other inside and out of the bus unless the shell screens them from outside. You can also plug into a phone jack at the campsite and use the whole system as a normal phone too. Just a thought. |

"anyway, Grampa connected ( I Think ) 3 volts by battery and had two phones connected and they were used like an intercom." Would have worked well in converting this bus: (Dammned image didn't work again) I can't remember where the battery goes, but you are on the right track, incidently, presence of voltage on an analog line is still called "Talk Battery" One of the newer phone systems, like I mentioned, and also described by the resident insane limey, should plug into any analog connection, if a RV park is like a Marina (But Drier) they would work that way. LOLOL GARY That looks about right when compared to the phones Gramps used. And they were used for the kids to play with. I don't know why I remember those silly things. one phone was upstairs in the hall and the other was in the dinning room next to the window on the shelf. Maybe it was the shape of those old things, must have been made by the inventor of phones himself. "That was cool Gramps" cd |

I don’t own one and don't know why this won't work, maybe someone can tell me. Two-way radio sold at electronic stores for around $50.00. Seem to be more practical; 1) Wireless 2) It with you and spouse for instant communicating. 3) Vary remote. 4) Usually 2 mile range. Sojourn for Christ, Jerry |

These also work great for communication when backing into a parking spot, for for when travelling with another vehicle. Last night I had to turn around in tight quarters with lots of rain and poor visibility. It was nice to communicate with my daughter who was outside the coach, helping me. Dave D |

The little FRS radios are great, I have a bunch of them. I am a Ham radio operator and They are near our 70 cm band. I bought them at a Ham radio store on sale, mine are Kenwoods, but I have tried others and they work well too. Here are some similar for $15 bucks- http://www.buy.com/retail/clearance/product.asp?sku=70012490&loc=114&sp=1 HTH, Bob |

The FRS radios can be had for under $20 for a pair at WalMart They're handy for use not only as an onboard intercom, but for the wife to call you to pick her up at the door, when you're parked out in left field in the rain (or at some not-so-desirable place). We use our Verizon cells for all of this, since the family package includes free 24/7 calls between shared plans. The wife feels safer with a phone in her pocket while in "strange" places, too. |
